The Common Room / Re: British Army birth in Germany in 1960s

I seem to remember that all births were registered with the GRO - hence the two birth  certificates. Be good to hear how you get on.

Kind Regards

Most births  took place in British Military Hospitals but were registered  at the garrison where the parent was serving.  A number of Records are held at the National Archives at Kew. It would be a good starting point. I know some people who have a military birth certificate and a standard British one.Good luck with your search

From the British newspaper archive  - funeral service at Garthdee church Aberdeen,  29 Dec. thereafter cremation private. You would have to contact Aberdeen city council to find out what happened to the ashes.

The Monaltrie hotel in Ballater  which is now flats has  been called The Invercauld in the past. It is refererred to in various local publications but with scant information. David Jamieson and Stewart Wilson refer to it on page 33 in 'Old Deeside Ways ' I think it may have started life as the Monaltrie, had its name changed to the Invercauld and back to the Monaltrie.
The hotel sits right on the river beside the bridge to the South Deeside Road. It was a sizeable establishment.
I think you have made progress since I started this post but wont delete it as you may find it useful. I hope it doesn't appear twice. I don't post very often and always seem to have technical problems.

That's quite a recent death so best place to try if Rootschatters cant help would be Aberdeenshire Council Offices. Not sure which one. Gordon House Inverurie would be my guess. Good Luck

I don't profess to be an expert but my understanding is that people did not  always marry in church in this part of Scotland. I think the banns were called or posted in whatever parish the couple belonged to  but even though it was a church of Scotland marriage the Minister came to whatever venue the couple had chosen. I have several instances of people being married in quite modest private houses.
That said one set of my grandparents were married at the Manse and when I think back a set of great grandparents were married at a hotel in Aberdeenshire in the 1890's

In  the  late 1950's my brother was christened in my grandparents home.
I am sure someone can give you a bit more detail but I don't think your ancestors situation was unusual.

I was going to suggest you write to Rothiemurchus Estate but if you put Attilia Rothiemurchus into a search engine you will find present day information. Rothiemurchus is just outside Aviemore.
I also think most of the estate is in Inverness shire shire
