Hello again after many years. Tim Foster posted in 2016 that Mary Murphy's parents were Thomas and Ellen Murphy, per the 1851 census record. However, that census record shows that Mary Murphy and her siblings had all been born in New Brunswick, after Thomas and Ellen Murphy migrated from Ireland in 1826. On the other hand, all of the census records after Mary Murphy married John Burton indicate that Mary was born in Ireland (Newtownards, I believe), and migrated circa 1846. This has led me to conclude that the Mary Murphy shown in the 1851 census record was probably not the Mary Murphy that married John Burton. I also have a letter from Mary's grandson Halbert which states that Mary's Irish accent was so thick as to be unintelligible, which suggests that she was in fact born in Ireland. One possibility is that the Thomas Murphy in the 1851 census was her uncle. Any additional info anyone can share would be very much appreciated. -Regards, Grant Burton

Hello, I am a direct descendant of John Burton, and would love to find out more about him. I show him   being born 14 Sep 1831 in Northern Ireland, immigrating in 1846, marrying Mary Murphy on 27 Sep 1854, and working in New Brunswick as a grocer. I believe Mary Murphy immigrated in 1846 from Northern Ireland, possibly with parents Thomas Murphy and Ellen ???.
