I'll ask my dad to look in the family bible. I think that only b.m. & d. dates are recorded there however.I might be able to get a photo of anything that is there in a few days if you would be interested.

He was definitely Margaret's brother as we have an inscribed copy of his book that he gave to her (and also his likeness). The book is available online https://archive.org/details/disruptionbywcr00crosgoog and the "Special collection" at Glasgow uni is here: http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/specialcollections/collectionsa-z/novelcollection/scottishfictionextendedlist/

I hope that helps. I found records online about the Paisley Poets and how William Cross provided the money for an Edinburgh magazine but his friend died so he took over. It was fairly successful for a few years and The Disruption was from a series which ran in that magazine.

It's fascinating stuff once you get started Justin. I have Charles Edward Miller's Burgess ticket amongst other items. There is a family story that he invented something that was copyrighted for his company which was involved in the Turkey Red dye process. His daughter Madge (Marjorie) was my Gran.  There is also a William Cross who wrote the book The Disruption which is in the Glasgow University archive because it was written in Doric. He was involved in the Paisley pattern dye process as well but was also one of the Paisley Poets which led to him getting into publishing at one point.

I have been searching my own family tree and was pointed in the direction of this website as someone shares a common ancestor. On my father's side the couple Wilhelmina Walker and William Murray Miller show up as my great-great grandparents. We have the Cross/Miller family bible which records all the usual birth details etc.
