Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: One last shot at this one!

I have two wills from the Horsteads - one from Bridget, the daughter of GGPx4 (the elusive ones) and one from her daughter Rhoda.  Though they reveal the names of all the siblings and spouses and their occupations, unfortunately nothing that helps with mum and dad!

Norfolk Lookup Requests / One last shot at this one!
« on: Saturday 23 December 06 16:16 GMT (UK)  »
This one is driving me absolutely bonkers.  I have my GGFx4 Edward Horstead buried 1827 in Ketteringham, date shows he was born 1735.  Alongside him, his wife Elizabeth Selby buried 1826 born 1741.

I have all their children born from 1765 onwards.  I have a settlement certificate when they moved in 1760 from Ketteringham, Norfolk to East Carleton Norfolk ("and any child or children they may have")

HOWEVER  I cannot find their marriage at all in any of th surrounding villages/parishes.  It is driving me mad.  Horstead is a localised Norfolk or Northamptonshire name.  Selby is definitely not a local Norfolk name - very rare indeed in the area even in 1841.

Can anyone suggest where else I can look for this couple?  I have a possible father in John Horstade (sic) and Bridget Pilgrim marrying in Great Ellingham in 1733 BUT no way I can connect Edward to this couple either.

Any help , fresh ideas, eyes, brains would be appreciated.

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Selby in Norfolk

 ???

I am trying to trace the birth/marriage of Elizabeth Selby born 1741 and married to Edward Horstead bn 1735.

They are buried at Ketteringham, Norfolk and the earliest info I have is a settlement certificate when they moved to East Carleton (both Henstead) in April 1763.

But from where did they come before Ketteringham?  Cant find them in PR.  Selby is a rare name for Norfolk at that time.

Anyone know of a clutch of Selbys in the county please?

KATE - Sorry if this is a cheek ::)

But I have spent over a year looking for a couple - Edward Horstead and Elizabeth Selby - they must have married about 1760 as they had 4 kid when they turn up in Ketteringham, Norfolk in 1770.

I have looked high and low for this couple in Norfolk - Id be very grateful if you could look at marriages in Suffolk, just in case they came from over the border.  Many thanks.

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Re: BURGH LE MARSH LINCOLN LOOK UP PLEASE
« on: Thursday 07 April 05 12:19 BST (UK)  »
;DJust to update.  SKS kindly looked up Ben and Mary Wiles (Wyles) on the 1841 for Northamptonshire.  Ben was born Kings Cliffe, Northants and Mary Grantham, which was Lincs.

Yipee, Ben is shown as a carpenter (as I had dearly hoped), he has a 30 year old son living with him, ALSO a carpenter and a younger son who is an apprentice carpenter.

I feel fairly confident that this must be my guys father now.  Just have to find him in London 1851 to get his place of birth to tie it all up!

:-\  Geoff I would be just as happy if he turned up in Derby or Timbuktoo come to that and had parents with the names Wyles and Castledine!

The marriage of Ben Wyles to a Mary Castledine and the fact that my GGFx3 is William Castledine Wyles is the info that has led me to these people.

As William must have served an apprenticeship to be a cabinet maker/upholsterer I had hoped to find apprentice records somewhere but no luck.  It would be a dream if I could find that old Ben was also in the furniture trade rather than an ag lab.!!
