Amazing!!!!! Thank you so so much! With that new last name, I was able to go on the LitvakSIG All Lithuania Database and find a large number of the Itzkovitch's! And the birth dates line up! I would never have been able to find these without your help! Thanks again!!! :))

Thanks!

I haven't been able to find death records for Lena's parents or their passenger list.

US Lookup Requests / Re: Harry Levine of Maine

I have still been unsuccessful in finding any naturalization records or passenger lists for Harry Levine or his father Morris. This, along with Harry's wife (Lena Kovitz), is the last part of my family that I have been unable to trace. If anyone has any ideas, it would be most appreciated!

It has been several years and I still have been unable to progress on this side of the family (the last part of my family tree that I haven't been able to trace)! My goal is to figure out where in Lithuania this side of the family came from (or at least a naturalization record for one of them).

If anyone is willing to help, it would be much appreciated!

There are a number of things I find strange:

1) I have been unable to find a naturalization record for a single member of this family, even though they all indicate on censuses that they have been naturalized.

2) The marriages are very confusing. Here we have the marriage certificate of Lena Kovitz to Harry Levine: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N4D8-S2W. I know that this is the correct certificate because a physical copy has been passed around in the family. HOWEVER, this lists Lena's parents as "Samuel Kovitz" and "Annie Cohen". This is where the confusion starts. This 1920 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MF9M-R8Q shows Lena's parents as "Zelda Kovits" and "Michael Kovitz". I also know that this IS the correct census, as I have personally met the Minnie and Bessie mentioned there. However, again in the 1910 census (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M2K2-YSX) we have Michael's wife listed as "Jennie Kovitz". I have absolutely no idea who Lena's mother was. It should also be noted that this record(https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N46L-XZL) lists them as "Max Kovitz" and "Zelde Sneider".

3) The locations where this family lived (although all in the Kaunas Governate) are different:
Samuel's WWI draft registration (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6W2Q-11R) shows him as being from Linkuva. A naturalization of what is likely Harry Kovitz in Boston, however, shows him as having been born in Ponevezh.

United States of America / How to Prove a Lack of Military Service
« on: Wednesday 10 June 15 07:06 BST (UK)  »
I have a somewhat odd question. A cousin of mine is applying for a  foreign citizenship based on his grandfather's nationality (now deceased). However, he needs to prove that once his grandfather left his home country and naturalized in the USA, he didn't serve in the American military. Is there any way of going about getting evidence that someone didn't serve? I found his WWI and WWII draft registrations in which he registered but never went to war. Are there any papers that can be filed to check if someone served?

Thanks!

US Lookup Requests / Help proving Sol and Mendel Rosenthal were brothers
« on: Thursday 09 April 15 20:50 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to apply for a birth certificate of a relative in another country (genealogy purposes) but need to prove by relation by blood in order to be able to request it. Thus, I need to prove that Sol Roy Rosenthal and Mendel/Manny Rosenthal were brothers.

Mendel/Manny was born 20 December, 1891.
Sol Roy was born 6 September 1903.

Their father was Herszko Rozenthal. This got changed upon immigration to Harry Rosenthal. Their mother was Sora Ester Kon which got changed to Sarah Cohen/Kahn. Harry was born 1856-1859 in Poland.

A census of Manny living with his many siblings and parents (1910) : https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MKZQ-NL9

Manny 1920: http://sharing.ancestry.com/6320340?h=a125c4&utm_campaign=bandido-webparts&utm_source=post-share-modal&utm_medium=copy-url

I can't seem to find Sol's name on the 1910 census which is odd because he was born in 1903. However, there is a "Charles" and I wonder if his name was changed. I am hoping that someone is able to help me find Harry's 1920 census (I am hoping that Sol is living with them and it will say "son"). Many thanks!
