Bedfordshire / Re: Flemming Family from Bedfordshire relocating to South Africa

No, I don't.
She departed in July of 1929 to South Africa with her husband, returned with Beatrice and Beatrice's children (Beatrice, wife of Leonard Eric) in Sep. of 1933; her husband died in England in 1936, and then she returned to Africa in April 1938 with Leonard Eric/Beatrice and family.  That's the last record I have for her.
You mentioned Reginald Walter Flemming, son.  There are census records for him with the family, and with his wife etc.  It appears he stayed in England throughout all of this.

Sandy,
I've hunted pretty voraciously, but can't find the estate record you mentioned for Margaret Annie Impey Bates Flemming, with son Reginald Walter Flemming.  Can you point?  Thanks so much.
George

Sandy,
Thank you so much for your help. Yes, I have the 1929 travel record but not the estate file. Can't find that one yet. The family went to SAfrica, back to England, and then back to SAfrica where it appears they stayed. I'll follow your leads in a few days when I return home.
Best, GSearlym

Bedfordshire / Flemming Family from Bedfordshire relocating to South Africa
« on: Friday 30 June 17 20:36 BST (UK)  »
William James Flemming (b1872, d1936 in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire), married Margaret Annie Impey Bates (b1871 Northall) in Aylesbury in 1891.  (Margaret, Annie, and Impey, are all given names; she and my father were second cousins).  William James and his and Margaret's youngest son, Leonard Eric, traveled back and forth to South Africa in the 1920s and 30s.  After William passed away in 1936, Leonard moved (in 1938) with his wife and children, a sister, and mother Margaret to South Africa.  They were Leonard Eric Flemming (b1906 Leighton Buzzard); his wife Beatrice Nellie Child (b 1907 Leighton Buzzard, probably married in South Africa); children Joan Margaret (b1929 Coventry, Warwickshire), Sylvia Alice (b1930 probably in South Africa), Gwendoline (b1933 probably in South Africa), and Hugh S. (b 1934 Leighton Buzzard); sister Dora Agnes Flemming (b 1904 Leighton Buzzard); and mother Margaret Annie Flemming.
One paid website for South African data indicates that they have death records for Dora Agnes, and for Hugh S.
Any information on these Flemming family members in South Africa would be most welcome.

Louth / Re: Who was Ellen from Dundalk, Louth, married to Walter T Fitch

I've ordered a birth certificate that will hopefully show Ellen's maiden name, which is narrowing in on "Power."  Also, just found son Arthur Charles Fitch, in 1931, traveling back to the UK from South Africa, with two children, Hugh Power Fitch, and Elaine Joyce Fitch.  That also points to "Power."
Thanks again, all.

Yes, that is indeed son Richard.  Thanks for the link.

Thank you, all!  I had looked earlier for an Irish marriage, but didn't find it.  I clearly wasn't persistent enough.  I will look more thoroughly at each of your suggestions in the next few days. I'll post what I find out.  Thank you so much!

Louth / Who was Ellen from Dundalk, Louth, married to Walter T Fitch
« on: Monday 11 May 15 00:14 BST (UK)  »
My great aunt, Annie Kate Simmons married Walter Thomas Fitch in 1890 in Epping, Essex. They had four children, Arthur George 1891, Edgar Percy 1894, Reginald Alfred 1898, and Dorothy Kate 1901. Walter and his first wife Ellen had five children, Walter Thomas 1872, Mary M 1875, Richard Edward 1876, Frederick W 1879, Albert C 1880, and Ernest Paul 1881.  Ellen died in 1883.
From the 1881 UK Census, we know that Ellen was born in 1853 in Dundalk, Louth, Ireland, but we do not have her maiden name.  I've scoured the available digital resources (birth records etc.) and they all list her as "Ellen", but without a last name attached.  If anyone here on RootsChat has information on this part of the Fitch family that might point in the right direction, or if someone might have a recommendation on how to find a birth record in Dundalk 1853 without a surname (good luck with that) I'd sure appreciate hearing from you.

US Lookup Requests / Re: Please help me find the Simmons family.
« on: Thursday 11 December 14 15:41 GMT (UK)  »
The George and Dora Simmons' you refer to are my great grandparents.  I, too, am very interested in knowing the circumstances of their travels to and from the US.  I am in contact with descendants of one of their sons (Alfred, younger brother to Charles and Annie who were born in the US), and I hope they might shed some light on this.  I'll keep you posted.
Also, it appears that Annie Kate married a Walter Fitch in Chigwell in 1890, and had a son Arthur George Fitch born 1891.  I have not found any further offspring from there.
One son, other than Charles, returned to North America (Manitoba, Canada).  I'm working on that one, too.
