Hi Sandra
Many thanks for your help with the Istance’s.
Yes, I have all of those and a few children more. Strangely David I(n)stance (1809-1890), who moved to be near his daughter Theodosia in Briton Ferry, changed his surname to Roberts (1861 Census), which was his mother’s maiden name, as did his son Isaac. Very odd.
Where did you find the death date for Alfred Istance, please?

Many thanks, but yes I have those three marriages. Trouble with the Istance surname is that there are many variants, most common being Intance, but thanks anyway.

Wow, thanks Roger. Thought I had found most of the Istance’s in Welsh Newspapers but you’ve found a few more for me. Many thanks  :D

I am currently doing a One Name Study of the surname ISTANCE and through research have found a few living in Carmarthen and surrounding areas. I wondered if anyone, through their research, had come across the surname and would be interested in your findings. I am registered with the Guild of One Name Studies and have a website Istance.one-name.net.

Did wonder if it was a munitions badge? Apparently civilians who were involved with war work wore them and there is a few photos on the 'Photo Detective' website of people wearing the 'Derby Scheme' armband and the badge.  Looks similar I think?
