Hi Steve Burns, just wonedring if in your research you came across a David Maher who married Anastasia  (Anty) Barlow or Barton in KIlkenny in 1846?

This David Maher was thought to be a member of the 48th Foot Regiment..

I'm actually trying to find a John Maher convictd at Limerick in 1851 (receiving stolen goods) and transported to Fremantle, Western Australia, in 1853.  This John Maher who died 1902, Albany, Western Australia, has David Maher and Anna Kelly cited as his parents on his death cert.

A long shot, but possibly related your Mahers of Clintstown, Kilkenny
