Devon / Re: Richard Gill b circa. 1776 Devon

Peter,

That is interesting, thank you. I has not been able to find that birth record. It certainly seems as if this is the same Richard Gale who married Susanna in North Tawton.  I will re-assess all the information I have about Richard Gill to see if I may have missed something, or which might help confirm that he and Gale are one and the same person.

Kind regards,

Mark

Peter,

Thank you for your response.

You have hit upon one of the reasons for my confusion. I am indeed looking for a Richard Gill, father of Robert.

I have made a bit of a leap to assume that Richard Gale is one and the same person, and that the name was incorrectly transcribed in the register (and on the Banns).  The marriage certainly fits with subsequent information I have (e.g. 1841 census return and Robert's birth records).

Richard Gale is listed in the parish registers as being from South Tawton. I have, however, been unable to find either a Richard Gill nor a Richard Gale in birth registers from around 1776.

Thank you. I did try doing that a while ago, but with no success.  I think, however, that it may be worth exploring that avenue again as there are some new possible lines of enquiry.

Thank you.  This is indeed the TD Macnair I am interested in.

I have no problem tracking Thomas through the census records and also have copies of his war records; it is more recent information about him (and Freda) that is of particular interest.  I am especially keen to try and track down photographs.

Searching for whereabouts of Ann Pamplin in 1870s/1880s.

Born Llanidloes (Montgomeryshire) 1820
Married William Pamplin in Shrewsbury 1838
Listed in 1851-1871 census returns as living with William and various offspring, in and around Shoreditch/Hoxton.

Ann then disappears from census records for 1881 and 1891. Re-appears in 1891 (after death of husband in 1883) and is listed as living with her son, Evan Pamplin (b 1839).

Not sure if Ann would have returned to live with relatives in Wales or entered the workhouse, but no evidence found.

Any advice/information gratefully received.

Many thanks.
