If it's any consolation, I've come across several marriages where the information has definitely been incorrect. Particularly confusing for newbies to this fascinating hobby!  ;)

And for oldies as well! :)   I so often wish that our ancestors had used really weird second names for their children.  At least that way we would be able to differentiate more easily between all the John's, Mary's etc.  Never having visited the UK (I'm in South Africa) I have enough of a problem trying to sort through the counties, districts, parishes and so on, to find exactly where they were born/lived! :)

Thank you Annette7 and amondg for all this information, I'm so grateful to you both!  I wonder if the minister, who filled out the certificate, has any idea how much trouble he caused ?

Thanks again and all the best to you both :)

Thank you Rosie99 and Diblet.   I registered on the site you mention and it suggests that I check first to see if the image is available before subscribing.  Not sure what I am doing wrong but the search form is not allowing me to enter any information.  I'll keep trying.  Thanks again :)

Possibly the worst search facility I have ever attempted to use (no offence to anyone :))  All I come up with is the front cover of the register and not the teeniest clue as to whether the person I am looking for is hiding inside.   Maybe I am dumb! LOL

Hi All,

Is there anywhere online that the actual images of the above registers can be viewed?  They are not on FamilySearch or Ancestry UK.

I have a marriage discrepancy I am trying to sort out for a Charles Randall, born abt 1843
Fenstanton, Huntingdon.   I have a copy cert. of his first marriage to Julia Channing (b.1853 d.1886) in 1871 Madras, India but only the transcription for his second marriage to Annie Hutton in 1890, Copford Essex, where Charles shows as a widower.  The first doc. shows his father as Thomas Randall and the second shows his father as Samuel Randall.  I'm absolutely sure that I have the correct info for this family.  I have birth info for eight children from his first marriage to Julia Channing as well as two further children, Frederick and Gertrude, from his second marriage to Anna Hutton (mother's maiden name confirmed via GRO index).   I have the family on the 1881 census Charles, wife Julia and children. On the 1901 census I have Charles Randall with wife Anna, his youngest daughter Alice Maud Mary b.1884 from his first marriage to Julia and children Frederick and Gertrude from his second marriage to Anna.  So far everything corresponds - names/dates/places of birth/occupation (military) etc. - except for the fathers names that differ.  Obviously I cannot assume that Samuel is a transcription error.   Charles' birth registration in St Ives shows his mother's maiden name as Webb but as yet I have not managed to find a marriage for a Thomas Randall or Samuel Randall, to anyone named Webb.
Any ideas on this mix up or where I might find an image of the second marriage, will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Thank you so much, this definitely helps!   Especially since I have an age for him now.  I was trying to gauge an age by working back 25 years or so from his marriage date :)

In case it helps identify Charles and Florence, the marriage image is on Ancestry

16th October 1915 St Lukes, Chelsea

Charles Buxton  62  widower  steward  26 Royal Avenue, Chelsea
Father James Buxton (dead)  steward
Florence Randall  37  spinster  Parish of Aboyne, Aberdeen
Father Charles Randall Sgt, Major retired

Both signed,
one witness was A M M Randall, think the other is George F ?

I haven't been able to access the 1939 register yet.  I've been trying to work out which subscriptions on Ancestry or Find my Past give access to the register.  I don't want to pick the wrong one and not be able to find what I need because the subs are hugely expensive when purchasing from South Africa.

The other thing is I have no idea at what age he came to South Africa, so might not even be on the register.

Hi all,

I have a birth reg. for Sidney Arthur Buxton - 1922 Guildford, Surrey, Vol. 2A - Pg 144 - Line 137, mother's maiden name Randall.   I am trying to establish if he is the child of the following as this is the only likely option I can find.
Marriages Dec 1915
Buxton    Charles    Randall    Chelsea    1a   1237
Randall    Florence    Buxton    Chelsea    1a   1237

Any advice on where I can go from here as I've drawn a blank on all my searches and it appears that Guildford baptism for this period are not yet online.

Many thanks.
