Apologies. Earlier in the thread I explained Catherine was baptised in Leitrim. I assumed people would Know this was in Ireland where she was born.

hi, not posted anything for a while but just discovered that Catharine Quigley and John McKenna had a daughter called Maryann, who was born in 1856. I'm wondering if Catherine is the sister of James Quigley who was married to Mary Leitch, as Maryann was his mothers name. Does anyone have any information on Catherine which may help my search?

Have you tried asking the cemetery workers? There may be mort cloths kept at the cemetery which they might have access to.

No, I was looking at the details posted by Rosinish. I think they might be from census?

Just had a closer look at the 1871 entry. Janet is 33? yet she was 40 in 1861? Either she's knocked 10 years off her age or maybe this Janet is an aunt?

Hello again. The Stobo link is one I hadn't came across so thankyou for that. Marion was married to John Hay in 1884, at Biggar. Janet Boa is listed as her mother. No fathers name listed. She was divorced in 1892. Marion then married Patrick Connelly in 1898. She is recorded as widow. Again only her mothers name is there. However, when Marion died in 1930, her parents are recorded as John Wilson and Janet Wilson m/s Boa. I've never managed to find a marriage cert for Janet. I did find her in the Poor Relief records in the Mitchell Library.  In 1899, she was claiming poor relief. She had a son John, age 47, and Marion, by then married to Pat, and another son, William, age 37. William later changed his surname to Steele. The records also say Janet was illegitimate and her mothers name was Mary. ( assume Boa )  Janet was sent to Peebles poorhouse and died there in 1902. On the entry in the poor records Janets place of birth is given as Bellspool, Biggar, but census records show Drumelzier.

Hello again, her name was Marion Boa, born in 1858. Her mother's name was Janet Boa. No mention of father on her birth certificate but names John Wilson as her father on her marriage certificate. She was married to John Hay, then divorced, and married Patrick Connelly. I know there were Boas in the Roxburgh area, but I haven't been able to make a connection yet. Oh, and Janet was born in Drumelzier.

So, yesterday I'm driving from Moffat through the borders and pass a place saying Glenholm garden center. Glenholm was where my 2 x great grandmother was born. Anyone on here familiar with the name Boa? I didn't realise the actual place still existed.

Hi all. I'm looking for information on Sarah Quigley, daughter of James Quigley and Mary Leitch. She died 16/09/1868 at 5 Stonecraig Row, Newmains. Would Sarah have been buiried in Cambusnethan cemetery? Prior to finding Sarah, the earliest record I could find of James was the 1871 census which shows them living in Carluke. James, Mary and other family members are buiried in Carluke Old cemetery. Is there any way I could find out who else was living at the address in 1868? Or, if Sarah is buiried with other Quigley's? Any help appreciated.
