Blimey!!  How did you find this information, where do I look.  It's so exciting.  We are coming to Europe next year so we want to visit the memorial.  I still have the plaque from my grand mother.    Thank you very much.   I would especially like to read all the messages that either he or my grand mother wrote.   Also the info in my grandmother travelling to Canada.

Thanks again,  marion.

« on: Friday 31 July 15 04:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi. Some of you may have seen my post on finding my grandma, Ellen smith in Duntocker, Scotland. Thanks  for the help.  Now I need help for her husband Joseph Hamill.  He was in the argyle/Sutherland regiment, fought in France and died oct 11/15.  Just found out today he was a prisioner of war.  His reg number is 2558.

Joseph hamill, born 1888, Od Kirkpatrick, married St Mary's church drc31/09' age 22, died oct 11/15.  Memorialized in the Menen gate at Ypres France.  The pow info I found  is a card and a paper says Beerdigt zu Gottingen,  the explanation says this means buried in Gottingen.  So where is he, how did he get captured and what happened to him.  Dint know where to turn on this one

Thanks everyone

Hi, you guys are fabulous.   the marriage certificate says 19 yrs.  married 12/31/09.   The one someone found with Jessie appears correct.  I remember my aunt Jessie (abut 4ft 10 tall and about 4 feet around.  She also must have immigrated to Canada.  There were 3 children of Ellen/Helen/Nellie, there was Sarah, Agnes (my mother) and Helen who I believe is the Toland.  When they arrived in Canada, he met her and took her out to the plain and she discovered that it was a "Soddy",  a house made of sod (soil/dirt).  Apparently she stayed 1-2 days and left for Edmonton Alberta where she lived most of the rest of her life.

I'll check these out, but where do you find this info.

See my next post for a search in her husband.

The. Marion
