Have read your message ,I was a nurse at Nore House but much later in 1960s not sure if I remember Trisha I think her "family group " was called Treetops ,she was a married nurse and lived in Portishead and came in daily ( if it's the same person) I have a photo of the house it's not there now as it was demolished in the 70s and a housing estate built in the grounds. If you send me your email address I will send you a copy

Hi lovely to hear from a 'comrade ' from Nore House, as you have read I was there in the 60 's when Matron Hoskins was in charge ,I have a few photos but would love to see more. I live in Somerset and have lost touch will the girls I worked with and am wondering if we were there at the same time!!!!! I was surprised to be told the old house has gone and replaced by houses, but the coach house is still there, did you live in the coach house? My name was Edwina Walter

To Portisheadframer. I understand you live in the coach house that belonged to Nore House, I trained as a nursery nurse at Nore in the 60s ,the coach house was as you said the staff quarters, the entrance was on the drive level with 4 (I think) bedrooms kitchen, sitting room. There were stairs leading down to a laundry, rec room, and an open space where the prams were kept this opened out onto a large area where the washing lines  were ,then the drive wound back up to the front of the house.

Hi All

I have just joined too, and am interested in Nore House and its history.

I think I now live in the 'other' property that was adjacent to Nore House, and which was used as staff quarters when it was an orphanage.  We acquired the building when the developers had finished building on the site having pulled the main house down.

I would love to know more of the history and see any photographs should anyone have any.  My friend actually worked at the orphanage for a while and is looking to see if she has any pictures.

If your enquiries have made any progress that you can share, please get in touch.

Regards.

I remember a building opposite the front door but within the grounds at nore house. I can remember going in that building once and seeing a tombola, crepe paper and other such trimmings. I believe it was used as a store room for such things. Please, please, please has anyone got a picture of that lovely old house? Regards from steve
