Thank you very much or your interest
I have a few newspaper cuttings they mention Hugh McGregor, I'll try and attach them, not sure how to interpret them, as I can only see dates and not a year, that's why I was thinking a brother or a cousin ?

I would love to think so .
But my Hugh McGregor was sentenced to 3 month for larceny, in Durham in 1855, Duncan and Rebecca were married in Co Durham in 1854, I was kind of thinking he was the same Hugh McGregor, but I couldn't find anymore information ,only because of my ineptitude.
I have the census for around that period with Duncan & Rebecca living in Southwick, or hartlepool I can't remember which, and I thought there would be a mention of Hugh,
But the only other family mention was their first born daughter Salina 1858-1913, there were more, sons and daughters, but no mention of a Hugh .

Sorry I wasn't more specific, I wasn't trying to be evasive,it was just a random thought,
But to elaborate I'm still trying to track down a great grandparent x3
I have quite a lot of information when he arrived in England, residency, marriage,  and of course  death and place of burial, and Im happy with this information, but I can find no information at all, as to his place of birth and that of parents.
A particular red herring, is on the marriage certificate, that of his father  Hugh ? and after lots of hunting, I can't find any evidence to support this claim that its his Father, maybe an uncle or even his Brother.

As you pointed out I stand little chance of finding the birth certificate of my 3x grandfather as the dob is 1835,

Duncan McGregor 1835-1887 last known address Barony parish, (married  in 1854) Rebecca Dennis 1835-1898,  living in Southwick, Sunderland,  Co Durham .

Is it possible to obtain a birth certificate if you have that person's death certificate?

Hi Scotty
I take my side of the family from Able McGregor,
I still cant enlighten you any further, I have recently opted for John and Ann being Duncan's (1835 ) most likley parents, even then its still a bit iffy, I too have a copy of Duncan and Rebecca's wedding certificate and this Hugh guy is a bit of a nuisance,
how ever there was a McGregor family in Hartlepool had a Hugh committing larceny in 1856, Im now wondering if the Hugh travelled down from Scotland at the same time as Duncan his younger brother ?
I know one thing it makes a right mess of my family tree when I keep chopping and changing.
Gordon (1900 - 1971) started me on this anoying trip.

StewMc Thank you for your input I would be interesting to see the information you have accumulated, I think the Period between Duncan leaving Scotland and arriving in the NE England then the marridge to Rebecca interesting in its self, I have a few interesting events in the family history, but I expect they are a lot more,
Hope to hear from you soon.

Forfarian that's how I understood it that Rebecca was illegitimate , I also have that Duncan died in 1887, so I'm not sure what went on there other than she must have remarried, you would think it would make things a bit easier having his birth and year he died, I have been sent a whole raft of Information on " Hugh" so I'm going to have a look at that !
