Sligo / Re: Patons in Co Sligo
« on: Tuesday 12 December 17 00:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hello how great to hear from someone who is also related to John Paton.   Unfortunately I am no closer to finding anymore information not for want of trying.  He was my g g grandfather.  Are you related on your paternal or maternal side.   My g grandmother, Nancy Butler was married to James Paton who was a son of John Paton and Elizabeth Aull (Hall).
How lovely that you are going to Molong, I am trying to get there .  My Nan, Letitia Gad Walsh (Paton) was born there.  I want to go  to see where she grew up and see if I have any relatives still living there.   Peter Butler and his wife Ann also my g g grandparents lived on a farm at The Gap.
With regards to John, I have found lots of information on him in Australia but have not been able to track him back any further than the trial in York.  No luck in Sligo at all.
Kind regards

To Sinann and Shaun J - Thank you so much for the information.  I will look at that today.  Hopefully some information about my Walsh GG and GGG will show up.

Hi Sinann nice to hear from you.  I saw that about Maryborough and Donaghmore but I don't know where to look to find staff records to see if I can find James Walsh.  Any ideas?

Laois (Queens) / Maryborough Queen's County Workhouse/Prison?

Recently had a death transcription done for my grandfather, James Walsh, hoping to get some more information.  It showed he was born in Queens County, Ireland around 1842 and came to Victoria Australia around 1865.  Don't know if he was an assisted passenger or not.  However the transcription also showed his father was James Walsh shown as Governor of Maryborough Workhouse.  His mother was Bridget Connolly.  I can only find Maryborough Prison and don't know where I might find registers of staff to find any record of my great great grandfather.    I would also like to find on what ship my great grandfather came to Australia.
Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

Thank you very much for setting up the new query.   Lots of information on there for me to follow up. I have paid a subscription to RootsIreland for 12 months and that should give me an opportunity to do a lot more research with that and Family Search.    Hopefully I can find some link.
I didn't realise you could set up queries on different boards, in fact I didn't realise there were different boards.  Told you I was new at this.  Anyway I am learning...slowly.
Thanks again.   Trish

Aghadowey - Whatever you think is better.   I don't know enough about how it all works to make an informed choice about which would be best.
I am just wondering why we are looking for James instead of John.  Not sure if I have missed a message somewhere.
Regards
Trish
