Thanks dorothy
I know for a fact that John and Jean are my great great granny and grandad and think John is son of william and Magdalene re Johns own childrens names as magdaalene and william, but age of john is 2 yrs out when cross reffing it with 1841 census.

Thanks for that.  Think the John of 1841 census sounds like my familys john as on his marriage cert it said master mason. Not sure why it also said ferryton cottage unless his parents ( and where was his dad on the 1841 census) had moved or suppose it could have been his wifes house, that sounds more feasible. Can see why you call yourself sherlock, its certainly detective work. Am unsure about Francis as so far if it was my John thought his siblings were ann and james who would have been 25 and 19 respectively at the time of the census, so wonder were they lived.
Thanks again.

Has anybody got any info on a family called gargill from forfar circa 1842.  John cargill married Jean Roberts in that year and they lived in Ferryton Cottage at some point and had 3/4 children, Elizabeth, William and Alexander.

Has anyone got any information on cargills that lived in forfar.   Information so far is my great great grandad was John Cargill and he married a Jean Roberts in 1842, he was a master mason and the appeared to live in ferryton cottage in forfar and members of the free church.  They had 3 maybe 4 children , my great granny being Elizabeth the eldest, there was also William and Alexander. My great granny was married in 1865 to a James Cantley and moved to Edinburgh.
Would be wonderfull to hear from anybody that knows about them or has info.

Cheers Jo
