Thank you for your PM & the marriage details.  Who were the marriage witnesses.

Rosie

Christopher Hildreth and the register(hard to read but that is what I came up with).

I have the marriage record.  William Hodgson married to Jane Hildreth 5 April 1896.  William is 31 and a Policeman and a widower. Jane is 26 and a Spinster, Her father is Christopher Hildreth, an innkeeper.  William's dad is William Hodgson, who is a coal miner.

I have spent the last several week looking for William's(son) first wife and his biological family but have not has any luck.  Thoughts or direction would be appreciated.

I found a few asylum records for William, if it is for the same William, that indicate that he was in and out of asylums.  Could this be how he fathered children until his death?  Can/should we try to prove any of it?

Spent five hours with my great aunt on Saturday.  I mentioned that her grandfather might be a police man, she said "He was a policeman."  Dad(John Henry) said that William was breaking up a drunken brawl and that he got hit on the head with a alcohol bottle, he didn't die, but never recovered from his injuries.  He lived in an asylum until he finally died from his injuries.

Can we figure out anything from this new information?  How do I find asylum records?  Could William father more children while in the asylum?
