Thanks for this update on your book Richard.  I will order a copy and look forward to reading it & seeing the photos of Gildroy's family.

Hi Shainie
yes, Ancestry is a subscription based website so it is a pay to use one.
I didn't know about the paintings that were done, I hope you are able to track them down to see them. My dad would have been a cousin to your grandmother Eileen.
I have very few old photographs of my grandparents. I guess they just didn't have many pictures taken in the past.
Best wishes, lambfran

Hello Shainie and Vince
I have just been reading your messages. Gildroy & Eve are my great, great grandparents. Their son William (Willem) was married to Martha. I have not yet found any absolute evidence that Martha was the daughter of Natty & Annie but Eric Trudgill's latest book about the Lock Family does suggest that she is.
William & Martha had a son Willie who is named with them on the 1911 Census at Trowbridge in Wiltshire along with his sister who is my grandmother.  She is named on the Census as Louisa but her name was in fact Emily Louisa. The other siblings named on the 1911 Census are Georgina, Julia, Tilly, Colena (aka Lena or Corrie), Amy and Elizabeth. The others were born later but they were Ernie, Linda, Israel (aka Danny), Gilbert, Charity Patricia (aka Patty) and Maurice. Corrie & her husband Butcher had a daughter named Poppy.
Do either of you have trees on Ancestry? I have a picture of Emily-Louisa on my tree.
Vince, hope you don't mind me asking but I would love to see any photos you may have too.
Does your dad remember Emily Louisa?
Shainie, my dad told me that Willie was married to an Ena - was Rosina's name perhaps shortened to Ena? and that they had a daughter Eileen.
Hope some of this information helps.
best wishes
Lambfran.

Travelling People / Re: Aaron Smith (b.1834-8 Circa, Berkshire - d. 1923 Surrey)

Hi
I was reading through your posts and noticed this:

"I know Job Parker's mother was not a Cooper or a Smith, but an Alford. Also his relationship with Lemantaney Carey began around 1868, when both were 19, and he is only linked to the Coopers after that date. Lemantaney was born on 6th August 1849 at Stanwell, Middlesex. Baptised at St Mary's, Colnbrook, Buckinghamshire, 13 days old on 19 Aug 1849. Her father was Thomas Carey (born 5th November 1811, Hawridge, Buckinghamshire). All I know of her mother is she was called Caroline, and was probably born circa 1814. She died not long after Lemontaney's birth. Could she be the Cooper link? If anyone can help identify her maiden name or the marriage if there is one to Thomas Carey, would be much appreciated"

Apologies if you have already discovered the information, I know I am a bit late reading this thread.

Thomas & Caroline are my 3x great grandparents. Caroline was a Pateman.
I believe Thomas & Caroline had the following children:
Golias born: 1834 Denham, Bucks.
Thomas born: 1837 Caversham, Berks/Ox.
Alice born: 1840 Pangbourne, Berks.
John born: 1843 Kent
Lemontancy born: 1849 Stanwell, Middx.

Alice born in 1840 had a relationship with George Lamb.
Alice Carey & George Lamb had three children all baptised as Lambs: Albert 1859, John 1862 and William 1865.
Alice died in October 1865, her death certificate names her as Alice Carey daughter of Thomas Carey but George Lamb was the informant and present at her death.
John Lamb is later recorded on the 1871 Census with George Lamb's parents, Isaac & Elizabeth Lamb and named as their grandson.
William is later recorded on the 1881 Census with Thomas Carey, widower, named as William Carey, grandson. William goes on to use the Carey surname when he marries Ellen Rose in 1895 and they are recorded using the Carey surname on the 1901 Census but switch back to Lamb by 1911.
I believe Caroline may have died in 1850 Wycombe, Bucks but I have yet to obtain this death certificate to confirm this is correct.

I hope this isn't too much extended family information but just thought I'd let you know Caroline's name if you hadn't already discovered it plus the connection.
It was your search for Aaron Smith that caught my attention as I too am looking for an Aaron Smith but the one I am looking for was born earlier around 1784.

Hi Rosie

ah! yes, my mistake, the burial record is for Alice Carey not Lamb but I think I will order the death certificate to see what details are on there. I will order the birth certificate for William too. It does look likely that Alice & George weren't married so I will stop looking for a marriage record and wait to see what information I can get from the death & birth certificates. I'm confident there is a connection between William & George the son of Isaac Lamb because Edward Lamb & Mary Ann Rose are witnesses on his marriage to Ellen Rose but once I get the certificates back, I'll let you know what information they give, hopefully I can confirm if I have got the correct George for William's father.
many thanks for your help with this Rosie, hugely appreciated :)

Hi Rosie

The record I have found is a baptism in Chessington, Surrey, 2nd April 1865 for William Lamb to parents George and Alice but I guess they may not have married, although the burial record for Alice records her name as Lamb.
I have found Alice's two brothers marriages in Surrey so was hopeful that she would have had a marriage ceremony there too. I have been looking around the 1858-9 records, partly because her age would have been about 19/20 plus the first baptism record I found was for Albert Lamb in Horsell, Surrey dated 11th Dec 1859 to parents George and Alice. The second baptism is John Lamb in Chessington, Surrey dated 13 Jul 1862. William would have been the youngest born in 1865 and then there is the burial record for Alice Lamb in October 1865, the Ancestry records place this as being Farnborough, Surrey but Cove & Yateley are very near so all in the same district.
I have been looking through the census for Albert and John Lamb. So far I have found one record for a Albert - not convinced it's the right Albert - but he is in the Army in 1891 & married to a Louisa Maude (nee Cartwright) so will try to find their marriage certificate to check what this Albert's father's name is to either confirm or eliminate him.

Sorry, I'm beginning to waffle now  :-\
so many records to check & I often go off on a tangent when looking for one record and find another haha! but I love it.
Thanks Rosie :)

Hi Rosie

Thank you. I have been looking on Ancestry for a burial record and hadn't seen this one. George Lamb married Bridget Cullen in 1868 so I think this makes it even more likely Alice was his first wife and Bridget his 2nd.
Alice has 2 brothers, Thomas & John, with marriages and baptising children in the Surrey records so I'm going to go back through the records to see if I can find a marriage for Alice & George.

Many thanks Rosie, much appreciated :)

Hi Rosie

Apologies for delay in replying, have had a busy couple of days and not much spare time to do research.
I will definitely check this one out.
I have found Alice Carey with a little help from Eric Trudgill research :) Alice was baptised "Cairy" in 1840 to Thomas & Caroline. I'm going to start researching the Carey tree. I haven't yet found a marriage between Alice Carey and George Lamb but there is another Carey/Lamb marriage in extended family in the next generation.
There are 2 further baptisms in Surrey for Albert & John both to George & Alice Lamb so will look a bit further into them too to see if they pop-up on a census somewhere.
Many thanks Rosie :)
