Sussex Lookup Requests / MIs for Rye parish church
« on: Wednesday 09 May 12 05:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Is there monumental inscriptions for the Rye parish church?
I have a number of burial records from the Rye church and was hoping that maybe gravestones existed and have been transcribed.
It would be greatly appreciated if some one can check such MIs, even to confirm no readable gravestone existed.

James KING (died 23Mar1862 aged 78, bur?) and wife Sarah (bur 12Mar1835 aged 49)

James KING (bur 19Oct 1836 aged 80) and wife Martha (bur?)

James KELSEY (Bur 21 Apr 1771?) and wife Elizabeth (bur 12May 1805?)

Thomas KELSEY (bur 17Aug 1737) and wife Jane (bur 1758)

Thanks,
Tim

Orkney / Bishop Murdock McKenzie of Kirkwall
« on: Monday 21 November 11 00:14 GMT (UK)  »
I have discovered that I am a distant ancestor to Murdock McKenzie, the  Bishop of Orkney (from 1677 to his death in 1688) via his daughter Jane who married in 1678 John Kennedy.
Some on-line information suggests he was interned in the "counsel house" or "south transept chapel" of St Magnus Cathedal, Kirkwall.

Could someone ,possibly living in Kirkwall , please confirm location and if there is any transcribed record of him there. If exist a photo would be the ultimate.

A big ask but maybe I will be lucky,
Thanks, Tim

Hi Peggy,
What a great surprise to hear from another branch descended from the UK Hodgsons. I would be interested in communicating further directly. FYI if you click on 'timaussie' then 'send this rootchatter a personal message' it would get to me. I will send you an email anyway to start things. I was particularly interested in Dr Joseph Hodgson (1788-1869) as he was listed in the Dictionary of National Biography as a noted surgeon & medical scientist as you would know.
I am a descendent of Joseph Hodgson's bro, Henry thru his son George who settled in Australia. Charles also came to Aust after George did but returned to England after a short time.

Hi Judy,
Great to find another 'Trees' branch researcher. We can now continue to share info directly via regular email if you wish rather than through this forum. You can contact me direct to start with by clicking on the blue 'timaussie' and in my profile under additional information click on 'send this rootchatter a personal message'.
The marriage of GT/EK has him recorded as Griffiths but he signed his name Griffess. Also the baptisms of first children were recorded as William Griffess and Sarah Elizabeth with father Griffess. These spellings are as recorded from actual images of parish records. I can send them to you. I have managed to also work out some of the King tree which I can share.
I have heard of the obituary you mention but would be interested in seeing a copy.
Regards,Tim
