Is this the church where Thomas is buried?
https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/buildings-search/building/40403010/lough-gowna-church-of-ireland-church-cloone-county-cavan

After the Coronavirus lockdown is over, I could check the nearby graves for clues - I live not too far away (I'd want to be sure I have the right church though!)

Just to summarize, before I investigate:

My Tree:

Code: [Select]
                                                                                          - etc

                                                                                          - etc

                                                - John Kilroy
                            - Jane Kilroy
    - Mother
Carole

And the bit you're unsure of is:
 - Are Thomas*'s parents correct (and the same as Mark*s?)

I havent been able to find much on Catherine Foster. Although, I think she is the daughter of John Foster and Anne <Unknown Surname>

Have you seen 1821 Drumlummon census?
https://www.familyhistory.ie/docs/archives/Drumlomman%20Parish%20Census%201821.pdf

I've been busy recently, but i'll try cross check our notes to see if there's a good explanation

Thanks Carole,
I'm moving house right now, so it might take me a little while to check it out - but I'll let you know how I get on!

Havent been on for long time but my notes have parents of Thomas Stratford & Mary Irwin as William Stratford & Elizabeth, his father was Thomas,& Thomas father was William Stratford who was born Warwickshire,England & died 1701 Nuneaton

I have some similar evidence for most of this, apart from the last William. How did you find the oversea connection?

I've been building out my tree on wikitree, which includes a good line of Cavan Stratfords. Having some issues sourcing all the info I've found or been handed from other researchers - especially Knight connections.

Here's a link to one of the people on the tree. Appreciate any collaboration with others on this site

I went to the NLI, unfortunately a lot of the interesting docs are stored up in Belfast, so I will have to organize a trip up there.

One other thing of interest is the crest on the graves at Drumlummon, they're definitely Stratford from their design - but I was not able to find any registration of arms. Have been trying to compare them to the other Stratford crests around but with little success

Found in A genealogical and heraldic history of the landed gentry of Great Britain & Ireland (Volume 1) p.455:

Could this be the father John Foster? Hmm, or maybe a father of him?

My great-great-grandmother was a Catherine Foster who was living in Kilmore at time of her marriage, whose father was also John. I'd say it's pretty likely this is the same person. Did you manage to find out any more information about that branch?

For sure they were Church of Ireland on my tree.
