Thank you for the information. I'm sure Steenson could be a variation. I wonder if 10 acres would require a farm hand ? I can find no birth or baptism records for Matilda Steinson.  Not a surprise if she were Catholic.  Really quite a mystery woman.  All we know for sure is they eloped and ended up on PEI in Canada, Lot 39, King's County, Sinnott Road - both listed as Irish on the census forms.  She survived until after the 1891 census and Patrick survived until after the 1901 census. Here is some of their offspring info from Prince Edward Island.  With the oldest named John Bernard, I wonder if her father was named Bernard?

Monaghan / Matilda Steinson and Patrick Connolly elopement
« on: Tuesday 25 April 17 19:15 BST (UK)  »
Matilda Steinson was born around 1828 we believe in County Monaghan.  She was supposedly the daughter of a wealthy farmer.  She eloped with a farm hand, Patrick Connolly, but was chased by her father and brothers.  They escaped and settled on Prince Edward Island Canada.

Trying to determine if there were wealthy landowners named Steinson or Stinton around Castle Leslie area in the 1830 and 1840's. He was Catholic, she might have been Church of Ireland
