Aberdeenshire / Re: Deochrie in Glenbucket
« on: Sunday 27 June 21 08:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
Scott Stuart/Stewart is my great-great grandfather through his daughter Maggie Jane Stewart. I've also been curious about the location of the Deochry so 2 days ago I took a trip to Glenbuchat and took this photo from the top of Ben Newe looking across to Tom Breac, the area in between appears to be where the crofts of the Deochry would have been.

As per previous posts, the Glenbuchat Heritage site has a wealth of information and photos including this one of Scott Stewart's wife Annie's funeral card. - http://glenbuchatheritage.com/picture/number295.asp

I have been able to trace the family line back a couple of generations but the spelling seems to differ between Stuart and Stewart which doesn't make it easy, but I'm more than happy to share what I've got. You can cotact me at bainmb@googlemail.com
Best wishes
Michael

« on: Sunday 24 May 20 21:21 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for some help with the stamps on the this POW postcard. What does the 18 refer to on the left of the Stalag 344 stamp?  What does the red 7064 refer to?

Inverness / Sholt??
« on: Saturday 05 January 19 07:26 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know of a place name of Sholt in Invernesshire??

I have a military pension record for Jonathan McInnes dated 1815 which states he is from the town of what looks like Sholt in Inverness, but I can't it anywhere.

Fife / John Pitcairn, Dunfermline
« on: Monday 27 November 17 21:04 GMT (UK)  »
I am having trouble finding a death date for John Pitcairn. The details I have for him are:
Born 27 June 1809, Dysart
Married Ann Williamson 7 Feb 1829, Leslie
Last known address - Golfdrum St, Dunfermline according to 1861 census.
Recorded as deceased on daughter Martha's marriage cert dated 6 July 1869

Therefore he must have died between 1861 and 1869 but there is no record on ScotlandsPeople (I have tried every variation of the name, tried using *).
There is a newspaper report dated May 1865 referring to a John Pitcairns being involved in an accident at a foundry where his leg was broken in 2 places. I have found several trees on Ancestry, quoting a date of death as 13 or 30 May 1865 in Dunfermline with the cause being 'a leg fracture that he suffered with for 11 days'.
I've tried contacting the owners of the trees without any success.
Can anyone shed any light on why there would be no record showing on ScotlandsPeople. or how I can verify his death record?

Michael

Thanks Frank, This looks to be him.
I've searched on Ancestry and ForcesWarRecords but can't find anything for him. What's the best source to use to find details of his military service?

Hi Frank,
I don't have the original photo, only a scanned copy. It certainly looks like something is attached to his boots.
