Yorkshire (North Riding) / John and Martha Dickson
« on: Sunday 28 May 23 07:12 BST (UK)  »
A few years ago I had a Lot of help from Rootschat about my 3rd great grandfather William Dickson born 20-601756 at Langwith Farm Wheldrake Yks.His wife was Susannah Rhymer. Since then I have found his parents were John Dickson and Martha , I have emailed Wheldrake church and the Rector told me all their records were at the Heslington Uni, I don't seem able to get in to their records and wondered if any one can help me, there seems to be no way I can find out more about the Dickson line. I would be so grateful for any help Pam..

Thank's Bumble B , I haven't used Root's chat for a year or more , you helped me then . I can't think how I'm going to fit Wilfred and his family into  my William Dickson family I did email the rector at Wheldrake Church but they had sent all their records to Heslington Uni and I'm not clued up enough to open and find any details I needed , it was so complicated . Once again nice to hear from you . Tiptop .

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Wilfred Dickson

I wonder if any one can help me ?
Recently trying to search my family tree in wheldrake Yks I saw a memorial plaque in Wheldrake church. It was of a Wilfred Dickson who was a driver with the Royal Artillary , he was killed in action either in France or Belgium 6-8-1918 so near the end of the war. In the 1911 census he was 18 years old and was a seedsman in Heslingtn Yks.His only living relative was his mother Isobel and I think his father may have been George . My tree is from William Dickson who was a farmer at Langwith Farm Wheldrake . This is where my tree stops , I don't know his birthdate but he married .susannah Rymer 13-12-1774 and he died in1823 .
I would be so grateful if any one could help me find more about either of these ancestors , especially how Wilfred fits in . Tiptop

Hi BumbleB , Thanks for your email and the information , It is so hard to find information . I spent an hour on Google trying to find any records and also to find any graves , all to no avail . I've been able to trace my other three grandparents line back to the middle ages so easily but the Dickson male line is so hard . You were able to help me last year with one of my mother's family , which gave me a good start . I've just started my husband tree and have been so lucky to easily trace the line back to the beginning of the settlement of Maine U S A. that's the way it goes . Tiptop.

The Lighter Side / Re: Harewood House / Castle

Thank you Mike for your very quick reply , I had started to think that the Redmayne's had lived in the Castle but wondered why . As with most family trees it does change a great deal when daughters marry . I'm having a fascinating time with Ancestry , finding so many ancesters back to the 13th century . If I get any more problems I'll put them on Rootschat . Thanks again Tiptop.

I have been able to trace my family tree back Richard Redmayne 1510- 1576 , Earl of Harewood . THis really puzzles me as I come from Yorkshire many years ago and know that the Lascelles family have been Earls and lived at Harewood for centuries where do the Redmaynes fit in ?. Hope someone can help me , I've tried really hard but it's difficult from Australia .Tiptop
