Thank you Jorose & bbart. It has been most helpful. I found the list of his children's names and it has confirmed to me that he was married twice.

The Common Room / Soldier - John Rudd

I was wondering if there are any records available for soldiers in the early 1800's. I am interested to find out any information on John Rudd. He was a Quarter Master in the 7th Hussars. He died in 1836 in Nottingham.

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Re: Ship - Senta 1885
« on: Monday 01 February 21 02:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I was researching on Trove and I finally found the Senta arriving in Melbourne. It left Christiana on 31st July 1886 and arrived in Hobson's Bay on 1st Nov 1886. I think this is more likely the route he took which must mean he was a year out on his Naturalization record. Is there a way I can find out who the crew were on this voyage.
Thanks, Lisa

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Ship - Senta 1885

I am looking for any info on the “Senta” which arrived in Victoria, Australia in November 1885. My ancestor Heinrich Johannes Christian Bernhard came to Australia on this ship according to his Naturalization record. I can’t seem to find any information about this ship. I was also curious why he was on this ship as it departed from Norway when he was born in Kappeln, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany which is about a 12 hours drive. I think he may have been a merchant seaman. I have also heard family stories saying he jumped ship but I haven't come across anything to prove this.
With thanks, Lisa

Limerick / William Connors
« on: Monday 11 January 21 01:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am researching William Connors and trying to find information about his family in Limerick, Ireland but not sure if there will be any records available. He was born about 1822-1824 in Limerick to William Connors and Mary. He has 2 siblings, Michael and Mary. He was transported to Tasmania, Australia aboard Ratcliffe in 1845. He was tried in Limerick. Would there be any records available in Ireland in this time frame?

Devon / Re: William Callagan Where did they go?
« on: Wednesday 09 December 20 08:44 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you for this information. It gives me something to work with. I noticed there was another marriage in 1864 of Martha (nee Deacon) Smith - widowed  to Thomas Faulkner. Same father, Sampson Deacon. Martha had a daughter Sarah Smith b. 1862. Baptism shows only Martha, not William.  It caught my eye, don't know if it is a coincidence but Mary Callagan (1828) came out as a convict as Mary Smith. Was then wondering if William did the same and changed his last name to Smith even though he married as a Callaghan.  I will keep an open mind to see if anything will link. I have always had brickwalls with this line.

Mary Callagan, daughter was a convict and on her death record it has William Callagan & Mary Smith as parents. On convict records, it has William and Charlotte plus her 2 brothers and 3 half siblings.

Devon / William Callagan Where did they go?
« on: Sunday 06 December 20 10:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I need help with a brick wall. I am searching the family of William Callagan b. 1796 Westminister and Mary (Smith - widow, do not know her maiden name) married St George in the East, London in 1823 and their 3 children, William b. 1826, Mary b.1828 & Edward b.1831 (all born in Ireland). I am not sure where about in Ireland they moved to but by 1837 Mary was deceased, (place unknown) and William remarried to Charlotte Smith in East Stonehouse, Devon. They went on to have several children. In the 1841 census, they are under the surname of Kelligan in Stoke Damerel, and the 1851 census as Callagan in Stoke Damerel. William Snr died in 1854. I am a descendant of Mary Callagan. In the 1851 census, it is a little confusing re, Mary Callagan whether it is William's daughter or the wife of William Jnr. I am trying to find out about William Jnr and Edward Callagan as the seem to have gone missing after the 1851 census. Any help about these 2 brothers would be most appreciated.

Nottinghamshire / Re: Mary Severn,I'm Stuck.
« on: Tuesday 01 September 20 12:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi larkspur, thanks for trying. I have all this info. I think John Rudd left Mary Hides with the 4 kids and ran away with Mary Severn as John and Mary S. are in Dedham, Essex in the census. I have a DNA match with a descendant of John Rudd and Mary Hides, but I descend from the other Mary (Severn/Sullivan). I was trying to find out about Mary Severn as there are 4 and I am not sure which one it could be. I have about 10 DNA matches from this line that I haven't been able to connect. They all connect back to a Charles Severn and Ann Sisson. Unless it is a big coincidence.
