I am sending you a pm with a possible birth.  Details cannot be given here as RC has a no living persons policy

Many thanks

Quote
that she was his half sister

Given that Frances left with the daughter and not the son suggests that Charles was not her father.  If he was - he would surely have taken steps to find them.  Did Charles ever re-marry?  If he did - he must have either divorced Frances or had her declared dead.

I don't think Charles remarried.

There is no birth registration for a daughter in 1945

I can't find her either. My friend's dad says she was 5 when he was born in 1947, that she was his half sister and took the Saunders name, but Peggy and Charles married in 1938

She married as Peggy,so one would presume she was known as that rather than Margaret.

Yes that's right, I think she was born Margaret but preferred to be called Peggy. That's the one, she married Charles Taylor Saunders

Marriages Sep 1938

Courtney    Peggy   to Saunders    Hastings    2b   77
Saunders    Charles T   to  Courtney    Hastings    2b   77

A Margaret Saunders born 20.12.1912 died in 1992 in Sussex

If this is your friends grandmother - aren't her parents able to provide any information?

Thank you for that information. Unfortunately the only information my friend's Dad can tell us is his parents' names and that his mum left with his sister when he was 4 around 1951. He remained with his Dad. He thinks his mum was originally from Killarney.

hello, I am trying to trace my friend's grandmother.  Her name was Margaret Courtney known as Peggy. We have been told she came from Killarney. She was born c1912. She married a Charles Saunders in Hastings, England in 1938. The only record we can find for her is her marriage, and the marriage certificate says her father was Francis Courtney. She had a daughter in 1945 and a son, in 1947. We do not know what happened to her after about 1951. Is anybody able to find any record? Many thanks

Kent Lookup Requests / Re: WILLIAM WOODGATE born PEMBURY 1745

Welcome to Rootschat.

There is an online tree that gives his parents as John Woodgate born 1717 Buxted, Sussex, died 9 November 1788 Buxted, Sussex and Mary Vennall born 26 March 1721  Buxted, Sussex died 21 July 1780  Buxted, Sussex. However they don't quote any sources.

I looked at the above John Woodgate's tree and hus line originates from Brenchley in Kent which is another branch of the Woodgates of Penshurst, so either way it looks like that's my ancestral line.

Many thanks

Kirsten

Hi, thank you, it's been a few years since I've been on here. Now my children are older I'm getting back into my family history research.

I was reading an article about the Woodgate family of Penshurst and Stonewall Park, and it says they had descendents in Pembury. Also I have a DNA link with someone on Ancestry who has a Woodgate of Speldhurst in their tree so I wondered if I was connected to that well documented line of Woodgates somehow, but can't find the missing link yet. Would be a change from all the ag labs if so!

Best Wishes

Kirsten
