Thank you to everyone for your help and assistance. Now I have more to go on with this new information I hope I will be able to go further back with the Jeffery family tree.

I Hope someone can help me. I have tried to find out who my grandmother is on my father side. I have a copy of my father's birth certificate, and his mother is named as Gertrude Crockford (formerly  Jeffrey). His fathers name is Ernest Crockford. I have been in contact with Southampton Register  Office and there is no record of a marriage. I believe Gertrude was born in Hampshire about 1890/99, and I know she died in Southampton in 1964. I believe Ernest was born in Cheriton as a Shearman before changing his name to Crockford to join the Army or Navy. I know that he lived in Southampton and died in 1964. I have trawled through lots of records but cannot find anything else. I would love to be able to solve this puzzle. Any help gratefully received.
