Thank you  all as have been searching for this clue for ages.  My great grandfather John Killingley was on board after all.

Whoops - typo - sorry.  Found my more detailed notes.

Ann Godfrey and William Walkley sailed from Plymouth on 26/4/1877 on "Corona".

They were married on 13/8/1876 at James Parish Church, Bermondsey, Surrey.   Often wonder why marriage wasn't in Somerset.  Did they elope or wasn't the marriage approved by her parents.  William was illegitimate, father unknown and probably never will be.  He was born in Gloucestershire.

My great-grandmother Ann Godfrey arrived in Australia with her husband William Walkley in the late 1850s.  She was born in Glastonbury in 1852, to parents William Godfrey 1818/1874 and Eliza Brooks 1821/1879.  William Godfrey's parents were George Godfrey 1791/1862 and Hannah Masters 1796/1861.   George's father is believed to have been a John Godfrey, born circa 1756 and trying to find his spouse, as many conflicting details on various genealogical sites !!

Any assistance much appreciated.

Thanks, Anne.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Has anyone had an Ancestry DNA test?

It is indeed annoying when finding other Ancestry users with common ancestry, who don't bother answering their messages.  Why did they take a test or create even a partial tree, if not to pursue their interests.

I initially took a test to try and find out more about an illegitimate great-grandfather.  And having a distinct olive complexion and slight oriental look to my eyes when smiling, found no "exotic" connections and of course hit a brickwall re illegitimacy.

Really don't care about ethnicity per se, just an amateur genealogist seeking ancestors and their history.

Current research interests are:

Killingley and Raven families, Nottinghamshire
Godfrey family, Somerset

Cheers

Yes I've done one.  English, Scots, Irish and Scandinavian.  Had great records prior to test on paternal side - Scots and Irish.  Not so much on maternal side, but primarily English East  Midlands and Somerset.  Her maiden name unusual and relatively hard to find connections.  However, test did help a distant cousin find me (from maternal side) and we've been collaborating ever since.  As to Scandinavian,  the Vikings were certainly active in England, Ireland and Scotland and probably have a lot to answer for !

Sorry I'm new at this.  Thought I was specific yesterday with date periods.  Was hoping to find other chatters with same surname interests.  I'm looking for these family names in Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, Bruton, Evercreech, Pilton, West Pennard.  Thanks again and appreciative of any hints.
