Hi there! 
Without meaning to crash in on your thread (i stumbled upon it google searching the Bentley family), i am curious as to what information you may have on Janet Bain (Bentley) and her children with George. I have managed to find articles about him, but he is named in the Police Gazette as Godfrey. My great great grandmother has Godfrey Bentley noted as her father on her birth certificate, and i have only managed to find one other Bentley with the same parents on their Ancestry profile. Family members believe his name was actually John, but i think that may have been his middle name. Since her has appeared in Police Gazette, and i believe was in gaol, i think he has changed his name. She also has noted on 3 different documents, varying birthplaces, and her DOB is not known by any family, even the year is in question. It's like a really in-depth and intriguing riddle that is all consuming me. I can find no record of my great great grandmother anywhere except in her marriage certificate. I am suspicious that like her father, perhaps she has changed her name, and wonder if she IS in fact one of the Bentley children who were neglected by their father, or whether she has been born after he left, to someone else.
Also, there is a nasty twist. She gave birth to a girl, who died 3 months later. She then married, moved to Tasmania and had another child. In childbirth, she passed away 2 years later. Her daughter was brought back to NZ, but appears to have been given the name of her first child, and it has really confused the lines and the family are not all aware of this. My mother didnt even know until i showed her the birth and death certs!
