Thanks Daisy,,
I did follow all these - like you say Ages all over the place, but I think the rest indicates that this the Michael Heron I was looking for. Thanks for the help.

 Ladyhawk,

yes I have full details of Thomas and his family (from Birth, Marriage, Death and Census details). Its the Father and Mother that are the enigmas.

Hi Mabel & Carole,

I know about the family at 39 Mill Bay (Michael's son Thomas). Michael last appeared in the census in 1881 living with wife and 2 sons at 1, Coppen Cottages, Folkestone. Its what happened to them from 1881 to 1911 that has me flummoxed.

The 1912 death looks promising, just wish I could track Michael in 1891, 1901 & 1911 census

Hi CaroleW,

this DC states DoD as 20.03.1912 was reported by J Hillidge (Master - Union Workhouse - Lyminge - Kent)

Profession - Marine Hawker of 29 Mill Bay, Folkestone, Kent.

So, this Michael Heron was in the workhouse when he died in 1912- and died (according to DC aged 76 - which = 1836?)

Hi CaroleW,

I agree there should be a death at some time in Elham if he remained on Folkestone, but alas no record. I wonder if he and Margaret moved after 1881 census.

I've got copy of the DC for M C Heron who died in 1912. Intriguingly, it gives 'Marine Hawker' (Fish Dealer?) as the profession. So, would be a hit if it wasn't for the age of 76 - which equals DoB of 1836?

Hi CaroleW,

did see the 1891 death in St George, but could not see the trail from Folkestone to London (in Census) from 1881 to 1891. His earlier children (Margaret, Thomas and Mary) all lived and died in Folkestone. The name changed, probably due to transcribers from Heron to Herring to Herron over 30 years. I guess they could all have gone back to ireland?

Hi All,

I'm looking for records for a Michael (Michail) Herron (Herring) post the 1881 census (Folkestone). He was born in Lismore, Waterford, Ireland around 1825 and married to Margaret and at some time was based in the channel Islands.

Any help appreciated!

Hi avm228,

I agree with your view that the simplest explanation is the most likely - I’ve seen this elsewhere on a couple of occasions.
