Hi John,

Thanks again for your info.
All very plausible.
This afternoon I spent some money and had a look at the UK 1911 census
for Mary Ann Clifford. She had married and married name was Donegan.
The census shows a Mary Donegan, Inmate, Widow, Age 71, Where born - Co Kerry, Tralee.
If this is the correct person then her date of birth would be 1840, which would match up
with your findings for a baptism.
I guess the date of baptism for John Clifford could have been mis read. 1831 and 1834 are very
close in appearance.
That really just leaves Johanna Clifford birth date as a mystery.

Thanks for your help. It will give me some other avenues to look at.
If anything else surfaces from your searches I would be interested in receiving them

Best Regards

Hi Kingjohn,

Thanks for your message. I had seen reference to this group of people before
however I have conflicting info, especially for John Clifford. I have him born 30th March 1834.
This is from an extract of the family bible.
I also have a death cert for Johanna (Ann) Clifford on 8 January 1890 age 62, which would
put her date of birth as 1828.
As for the other children I do not recognise the names apart from Mary and again I think my records would indicate she was born about 1835 in Tralee.

Any other info would be extremely helpful

Best Regards

Kerry / Cliffords from Tralee

I have a gg Aunt (Mary Ann Clifford) that came to England with her parents and siblings about 1840. She gives her place of birth as Tralee, Ireland on two London census (1861 and 1891).
She was born about 1835/36, however I have not been able to locate her in any of the Irish online documents.
I have her marrying a Dennis Donegan in London 12 Sept 1858. Sometime around 1863 her and her husband go to America. They return to England about 1870 with a son and live in Salford, Manchester.
Any help in establishing her actual date of birth and birth place as well as her parents would be extremely helpful.

I was in Rafford old chuchyard two weeks ago, looking for any references to my Collie ancestry and saw the John Younie and Anne Collie headstone (still standing !!). I am still trying to make the connection to Anne Collie in my family tree, but getting there slowly.

For those of you that are interested, the parents of Anne Collie were GEORGE COLLIE and CATHERINE BREMNER, (various spellings of her name) There are quite a few siblings spread over a long time frame.

Also if you are looking for John Younie in any of SctotlandsPeople or Family Search (IGI) it has been mis transcribed as YOUNG.

Christopher,

Thanks for the additional info. I will re-visit the map(s) and see where these places are in relation to where I think Croyle might be !!

Best guess I have at the moment is somewhere between Tralee and Abbeyfeale.

Christopher,

Thanks for the response. Since writing the original request I have found some additional info that may narrow down the search area. The family were Catholic. This I have found from baptism and marriage certs here in England.
Also the family would appear to have left Ireland somewhere between 1836 when Mary Ann Clifford was born and 1840 when a son Daniel was born in England.
Also the daugheter I had noted as Amy was actually named Johanna. She has put her place of Birth as Ireland, Croyle, Kerry in the England 1871 census. I am having difficulty locating Croyle, primarily because I think it was written down incorrectly on the census form. The other sister has put her place of birth as Ireand,Tralee on the 1881 England census. The son John (Charles) Clifford was born on 30th March 1834. This is from a bible insert, however no place is given.
Hope this may jog someones memory
Regards
Stuart
