The trouble is I do not know all - did Alexander Bray and wife Sophia stay or leave Russia - the surname of Stephen's wife Maria - they may not sound a lot but to me just curious.  I will delete all from RootChat.

Hello

I know, I was originally told Olga's father was Alexander but her wedding certificate shows Stephen Thomas James as her father.  Olga married 26 Jan 1909 at The British Church of St Andrews Moscow. The marriage was witnessed by: James W Bray, Stephen W Bray, Alfred Bray and Anna (?)
I wonder if James and Stephen are her brothers. I understand Stephen TJ was married to someone called MARIA and understand they did have other children but to be honest I thought Alexander was her father and spent most of my efforts on his family. I have tried contacts to see if I could find out the surname of Maria but no luck as far.  I have to admit I am not very good on the computer a cousin in Canada, has sent all kinds of titbits on the Ephimoff side of the family.  A Elizabeth Ephimoff studied at the University of Geneva - have that on file - she came from Petersburg. If there is way of sending you a copy of the marriage certificate, I am quite willing to share.
I have also been told Olga taught English for the young children of the Royal Family - but how one can verify that I do not kow.
Olga and her husband Harry Yates returned to England 1909 as my father Stephen Yates was born 24th December 1909 LEICESTER - the birth was registered 1910.  Harry was born in Canada - Wentworth Canada.
Look forward to hearing from you.

I have a Bray connection - only getting to the bottom of my connection.  My grandmother Olga Bray was the daughter of Stephen Thomas James, born in England but died in Moscow.  I have his brothers on my tree - I was originally told her father was Alexander married to an Ephimoff but when I obtained Olga's divorce papers, they arrived with a copy of her marriage certificate and it clearly shows that her father was actually Stephen.  Olga and Harry Yates married at the British Church of At Andrews, Moscow.
Hope to hear from you.

Trees are fine - I know what you  mean about records.  I have their wedding certificate but haven't put in my tree as fedup with people putting things on their tree but when I ask how we are connected - even saying I have no need to view their tree just wondering about the connection and they are not decent enough to reply. I have had fantastic help from so many people regarding all the families on my tree - and when asked I have scanned documents to them.  The most helpful have been the Haynes, Saxton, and the Yates side of the family.  I have used Kew for information and they have been great.  Anyway will not ramble on any further.  Take care.

There are photos of my father Stephen Yates on my tree.

Yes - have actually met one lady, lovely person, but her connection is that the Bray was her stepfather and had the same info I had.  It was a connection from Canada that suggested I obtain Olga's divorce papers.  I am pleased I as among the papers was the marriage certificate.  I have tried Ancestry and find it very interesting as they always state there are no records of Olga etc.  I have a tree on Ancestry if you wish to have a look. I even put the date and where they were married and still can back - no records at all.  I have birth records of the children of Stephen's brothers - all very odd if you ask me. I did type in - Yahoo - Brays of Moscow and turns out the Brays are still operating a ball bearing factory in Moscow. I find the whole Bray saga interesting and wondering why Olga appears to be a no, no. Perhaps Stephen is her father but Maria not her mother!!!!  I have tried the American branch, where many of them ended up after 1917, but none have replied.  I have had tea at the Russian Tea Room in New York, but, then had no idea that a Bray worked there for a while after 1917. I look forward to hearing from you as to why Ancestry doesn't appear to acknowledge that Olga even existed.

Harry Yates was an engineer and at one time he owned, I believe, a ball bearing factory.  I believe someone in the Bray family owned a fur business.  Harry could have been working for Stephen Thomas James Bray.

Does anyone know the last name of Maria Bray - I mean her maiden name.  The info is so helpful as now know when he actually died.  I have his parents and his brothers and their name of who they married.  I understand had Olga had at least two sisters - I can remember my mother say she had met them - I believe one them was named Maria.
Thank everyone for your quick replies and all so helpful.

Stephen Thomas James Bray born England died Moscow around 1918.  His daughter Olga Bray was my grandmother.  I was able to fine the name of her father from her marriage certificate but do not know the name of her mother.  She married a Harry Yates, born Wentworth, Canada, at The British Church of St  Andrews, Moscow.  I have no idea how Harry got to Russia or what he did.  Olga died 1959 in Birmingham.  My parents divorced and just researching my Russian relatives.  My father Stephen was born in Leicester - his parents married 26th Jan 1909 and he was born 24th December 1909.
Look forward to hearing anyone.
