Are you looking for anything in particular?
Hi Jim
Just trying to find out more about any granddad as I know hardly anything as my farther did not know much about him as he died young. My nan never spoke to much about him either then my father went into the Army and moved to London once D-mobbed. So all I know about him is birth, marriage death and that he was a hewer down the coal mines, other than that nothing.
So I think its time for a trip to Lancashire

But thanks for all the assistance and pointers
TT

The S. Lancs. were in India fir the entire war & as it wasn't a theatre of war no medals.
It looks like a 2 so 29924. There isn't anything before that as there were no 6 digit Infantry numbers until 1917 & that was TF only.

Thanks jim1 for the info , really helpful and gives me so much more of an understanding
So would the S Lancs Reg have been based in Asia or the Arabian Peninsula rather than just india as he was in QATAR according to the certificate

I couldn’t resist a look. If his father was Edward and his address 124 Lower Ground, Standish, Wigan, his Regimental number was 109371. There are some records on Ancestry.

Addendum

I think that one can be scrubbed.

From what I have is his Farther was William Pennington aswell, from Wigan (Married to a Jane Smith)
My Granddad was William Pennington , Married to a Mary Briggs.
He died very young that I do know and my dad does not remember much about him as he was only 6 at the time

Hi Thanks for such quick replies and the guidance.
The number on the Cert attached from what I can see is the last 4 digits are 9924 but there is another number there that looks like a smudged 2 or 4 and that is before the 9924

I am looking for any Army record for William Pennington Born:12th Feb 1894 Wigan  , Died 3 APR 1932 Goldthorpe South Yorks

He was Part of the South Lancs Regiment and I have his Signaling Certificate but the document was folded and has taken out part of the number. I have been to the National Archives and could not find anything. I also have part of his Army number on the attached certificate but still could not find anything on Ancestry or NA.

If anyone has any other ideas I would appreciate the guidance

Thanks
TT
