Matt, do you know if the man in question stayed in Australia or returned to Turkey?

Are there any relatives or friends who may have known him?

I am fairly sure he returned to Turkey and I doubt he had any other family here.
I can't be sure of this, but my mother believed he wasn't a citizen, though she said she was not 100% sure of that.
The only other DNA matches seem to trace their history back to Bulgaria, but are of Turkish descent as well and they are quite distant matches and have yet to turn up anything meaningful in regards to tracing this identity.

Are you thinking of the electoral rolls?
Ah yes, that is what I was thinking of

If he was a Turkish man he man not have been enrolled to vote. I had a very quick look and there aren’t too many men with that first name listed, but I couldn’t find a good match for the surname. It might be worth you having a look yourself though.  :)

Has your sister considered taking a DNA test? Any matches might give you a starting point.

She has, the only good connection is in fact a half sister, but that lady has no information herself except a name, which she is not at all sure about the spelling of it.

Yes I also fear he was working here as some sort of diplomat or translator. Which would possibly mean there is almost going to be no record of him at all that I can think of

This person could still be alive if born in the 1940’s or 50’s.

Rootschat has a strict no living persons policy so his name needs to be removed from your post

There are no census records covering that period

Hi CaroleW
Thanks I have removed the name

Australia / Melbourne - early 1970s
« on: Friday 12 November 21 13:25 GMT (UK)  »
I recently (well about 8 months ago) started trying to find my sister's father for her and it has turned out to be extremely difficult. It would appear that he is a Turkish man and I believe was residing in Melbourne in the 1970s, or impregnated 2 women in Melbourne in the early 1970s.
I am hoping to find out anything more about his name at all.
I know there used to be an archive where I could look up addresses using a names as it recorded census data and addresses up until I think the 80s, but I lost all of my family heritage links.

If anyone at all has any pointers about where I could go here with this limited information.. I would appreciate it, because I am pretty well stuck at the moment

Oh I think you have nailed it!!!

His wife also has a record from that day that I had not yet been able to work through deciphering (I will post that later today or tomorrow as I need some help with that also) that seems to indicate that she and Solomon harboured an Ellen Allen who was an Assigned Servant of Mr R Wales.

I have not looked up Ellen Allen yet and I could have the name wrong, but it is a corresponding record from the same day. That is absolutely brilliant that you picked up the Female Assigned Servant part.

Thank you all again so very much!
