She was baptised twice

I believe she is my great grand aunt, sister of my great grandmother Mary Ann Prior Hemmings

Two of her younger sisters Alice Amelia and Ellen Edith followed her to Sheffield 10/15 years after she married here.

Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / Walter George Gravestock b 1883
« on: Monday 06 December 21 18:52 GMT (UK)  »
I am doing a tree for a friend and I came across a bit of a puzzle regarding Walter George Gravestock b 1883

I found two marriages, one to a Florence Eleanor and another to Florence E but 15 years apart.

Jun 1906   Gravestock  Walter George    H. Hempstead  3a 1425    Gregory  Florence Eleanor    H. Hempstead  3a 1425

I am assuming that this is the correct one going by the DOB for son Harold Walter b 1907 which I know to be correct.

But I also found this!

Dec 1921    Penney  Florence E           Walter Gravestock  Watford  3a 1915

Is this just purely coincidence or a different Walter?

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Thanks

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Charles Taylor born 1847 Bletchington

There is a Charles Taylor of the right approx age living with grandparents in 1851 - and born Bletchingdon. There is also a 'daughter' Hannah Taylor unmarried - aged 25 in the household. The family are living in Bletchingdon.

Maybe - just maybe Hannah is his mother.

Thanks :)

Very little info given to base any search on

Use freebmd info to check for mothers maiden name on GRO then use it to look for parents marriage

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

You “believe he married Sarah Brogden about 1873”. Did you check freebmd to confirm it?

You have posted on the Oxford board -how do you know he was born in Oxford -what census have you found him on & have you looked for him on earlier censuses

Found on 81/91/01/11 census born Bletchington on all of them.
I found the marriage on BMD

Thanks

Just noticed on Alice's death certificate  that husband George F was a commercial trapper!
Out of interest what might he have been trapping?

You will have no doubt noticed that next door to the Fitchett's there are lots of Priors but I can find none of them that are related, although I guess they must be!
Too much of a coincidence not to be.
None of them are born in Woodstock though.

Five years earlier (1896) Alice's sister Mary Ann Prior Hemmings gave birth to my grandmother just a few miles away in Cowley Road Workhouse.
