Hi
There is another couple of the same names married 1 April 1821 in Glasgow it is this couple I went with. The name Miller comes from Joseph Hossicks parents which were David Hossick  and Jeanie Miller of which I know nothing of them. John Cameron named one of his daughters Jeanie Hosie Miller Cameron she married an Alexander Warnock. The 2 names in the 1851 Census James Keenan a sailor married Elizabeth Hosie and the other John Waters married Ann Hosie. I don't know if Ann Newel is related to them or not. Hope this helps. Thanks again.

No I don't have any marriage details for those two. I would need to have a look in some of my notebooks to answer that one but I have seen it in some docs like birth certs but as I said I would have to have a look.

Does he actually name himself as John Weir Cameron on that marriage certificate, or anywhere else, or is he John Cameron, and his mother's maiden name was Weir but is not used by John?

Haven't looked at it for a while so got the certificate out and read it and no he doesn't actually name himself as John Weir Cameron but John Cameron. But I have seen it written as John Weir Cameron but if he used it himself I don't know.

Also foubd this in my notes a census record from 1841

Sarah Cameron   50  Inverness shire
Mary Cameron     90. Invernessshire

This may be his mother and grandmother I found this while looking for the Census record of  1870 in America and I haven't looked in this book for a long while. This may be the reason he left and went to sea. If his father was dead and he was left to carry on the farm as it said he was an Ag Lab.

Archibald Cameron   13  Glasgow
Janet Cameron   9  Stevenson

Just to say a huge thank you for the info on John Cameron children Especially the two born in America I never thought I would find out when they were born. I had found the family in a Census before any of the 2 children were born they only had Elizabeth at this time. They had a son John who died and then they went to America  had two and came back to Glasgow ad then Ayrshire. I have some info on them but could not find anything on John Weir Cameron even though I has the parents names wither he ran away and joined the Merchant Navy I couldn't say or even if the parents are real people. I have no family to ask about them as the only one who may have known anything developed Dementia before I started looking into the family. Well again thank you very much for the info I shall add it to the tree. I would be grateful if at anytime you come across anymore info you would keep me in mind. Thank you again.

There is a tree here with the childrens full names, Jane as Hossick/Hosie

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/9QQK-JR7

I would like to thank you very much for the information you have given me concerning John Weir Cameron. He was married to Janet Reid Hosie she is buried in Largs in Ayrshire. I have some info on the Hosies but not the father who was Joseph Hossick. Apparently their name was Hossick but got shortened to Hosie I have not got a clue why. I have been looking for John Weir Cameron birth for ages and as I said the only info I have is from his marriage certificate. He was residing at the time in the Broomielaw Glasgow at the Seaman's hostel which was demolished c 1969 how they met I don't know but after their son John died they went to America and had two children over there then came back to Glasgow. I did find them on a census in New York. But not the birth dates of the two children. Anyway can't thank you enough for delving into my question Thank you.

Hi i am wondering if anyone might have some info on John Weir Cameron his parents were Archibald Cameron  and Sarah Weir. I have no idea where he was born and it took me the best part of ten years to find his place of death. The only info I have is his marriage certificate his spouse being Jane Hossick of Stevenston Ayrshire. The date being 26 April 1864 in Glasgow. I would be grateful for any help regarding this person. Thanks.

Hi my mother was the youngest daughter of John William Adam Bell his wife was Janet Cameron born in Ayrshire Scotland. When I started looking into family history I had asked where James Adam
Bell had been born and she told me that he was born in Leith Edinburgh and moved down to England
For work which at the time seemed reasonable, unfortunately I cannot confirm that info as my mother has passed. He could have been born in Edinburgh and moved to Glasgow. Hope this helps some.
