Durham / Re: Mackey Mackay McKie surname in South Shields

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the quick and informative reply.

I believe my ancestor is their daughter, Sarah Stephenson who married John Barry. I will admit, I haven't put much time into these lines so you've inspired me to go back and properly look at them. Have you done a DNA test on ancestry? I wonder if we are a match.

Thanks very much again.

Hi Jon,

I believe we may be related through Sarah Stephenson (my 5th great grandmother) and the Mackey family. Did you manage to find out much about this?

Hi

Can anyone help me with what the third line down says, I assumed it would be a place in County Armagh but the only one I could think it would be is Newry, which it doesn’t look like to me.

Thanks

The Common Room / Re: Inquest

The archives local to where the Inquest was held is the best place to contact to check it holds the Coroner's records, not all survive.

I have one (1902) from the London Metropolitan Archives; numerous pages showing the doctor's report, handwritten statement from the sister of the deceased, list of those called to act as the jury, notes from those unable to attend. Fascinating to read, the Inquest was held in a local pub!
Thanks very much. Sounds good. I'll get in touch
