Hello Pamela,

To the best of my knowledge there is no connections... although I have family that came from Buckland Brewer and there could be a distant relative... I have not done any Family Research for some time... should I find anything I shall make contact with you..

Good Morning Dion,

Thank you so very much for your reply... it is a lot to absorb and also for me to learn about and not having information close at hand and also not knowing about the Towns and Villages in STS..I do have a UK Map, but of course it does not show all the places that you have mentioned....

The one fact that I do know is that Mary Fraser (Nee Ferguson) was the daughter of a Phoebe Ferguson, and Phoebe went on to have two more children that I found albeit a few years apart  (1) Daughter named Ann Ferguson Baptised 22 May 1808 @ Wednesfield STS. & (2) a son Thomas Ferguson Baptised 24 April 1814 again @ Wednesfield STS... Mother Phoebe and no mention of a father...(Source) England Births and Christenings. 1538-1975 Family Search .Org..... So Wednesfield is a starting point as well.

Methinks both you and Linell are right about Hugh being a Navvy...as the Coroners Report shows that he was a Labourer and accidentally killed whilst employed at the Railway in Madeley STS...

I have a lot of work ahead of me for sure, so please know that I welcome your information and will pursue it further- minus a few headache's and mind searching along this journey...LOL..... again my Sincere Appreciation...

Cheers for now.

For Linell, Dionysus & ciderdrinker...

I have made further progress but again am in need of advice or guidance and I'm hoping that you may be able to assist me Please.

My elusive Hugh Fraser/Frazer/ Frasier died 14 Oct 1837 in Madeley STS. Whilst working on the Railway as a Labourer. I have a Coroner's Inquest Report which states that he was tragically killed run over by a Wagon Wheel whilst employed on the Railway...Hugh was buried @ St.Peters Maer 16 Oct 1837 aged Circa 37 yrs...His wife Mary Fraser(nee Ferguson) was 8 months pregnant with their 4th Child Elizabeth Ferguson Fraser Bapt 26 Nov 1837 @ St. Peter's Church Maer. STS... On the 6th December 1837, Mary Registered both the Birth of Elizabeth and the Death of her son William aged 16 months & 4 days... so she was still in the Maer area in December 1837....I have looked at a couple of things (1) Mary returning to her mother/family in Wednesfied STS, no results... (2) a Re-Marriage in the Free Reg BDM- Can't find anything (3) Mary's Death (there was a possible Mary Frazer died 1839 @ Stoke on Trent Reg  Jan-Feb-March Qtr...but unable to validate that... she seems to have disappeared or I'm doing something wrong.??

In 1841 Alexander aged 12  (eldest child) his sisters Anne aged 6 and 3 yrs are in Gloucestershire Dursley Union Workhouse...this is too much of a coincidence not to be them...I have learned perhaps the reason the children were sent so far away was due to the Parish Finances at the time and with no mother around... the 3 children were listen as "Paupers" and Not of this County...

I found in 1851 UK Census Elizabeth in Dursely working for Amelia Bendall a Dress Maker as a Public Servant aged 14 years. say's she was born Dursley, but methinks that can be explained as she was only 3 years old in the Workhouse.

I don't know what happened to either Alexander or Ann in 1851, but in 1861 UK Census I found an Alex Frazer as a Border/Lodger in Ancoats Manchester..Head of the house was a James Bramall and James's wife Martha was born in Madeley STS where Alexzander's father was accidentally killed...

My question is... am I grasping at straws? and where or what can I do to further my research on either Hugh the father or Mary (the Mother)...I eventually know about Alexander marrying in Manchester Cathedral to a Sarah Berry in1868...

Just one note about all of this... there was a Farmhouse called Slimersdale/Slymansdale near Camp Hill not far from the Manor in Maer...I think this is where Hugh Fraser ( the father was born) but that's only a theory...

So looking forward to tour comments, and again my sincere Appreciation for any hep or advice.

Dear Ladyhawk,
Thank you for your reply... this could be a possibility and one that I shall follow up.... I have to say that from all the research I and my Late Cousin have done on our " Fraser Family" the Traditional names have carried on to the present day... names such as William, Alexander, Hugh,( no Elizabeth at all...and so on...

Thank You
Faysie

Dear Goldie,

Yes it was me that posted those messages about 3-maybe 4 years ago...I appreciate your concern regarding people going over old messages... I also want to apologise for taking up so much space with my request, but this has been going on for almost 20 years between my late Cousin and I, just trying to find out who Hugh Fraser's (akas Frazer-Frazier) parents were and where Hugh was born... Is he a Scot or is he Irish....

What has made it extremely difficult all of these years was Hugh's son Alexander Frazer who married Sarah Berry in Manchester... Whilst researching Alexander and checking all the UK Census  it was always stated on the Census that Alexander was born in Salford Manchester, that was until 1851. where it say's he was born in Slymansdale Gloucestshire.... well that threw a spanner in the works... after much research we find that Slymansdale is in fact was a house on the road to Baldwin's Gate area. according to the 1889 Ordanance Survey from the  Staffordshire records office) on a road now called Camp Hill.. In The Parish of Maer. Staffordshire... On further research and investigation I have validated that Hugh ( Frazier) married Mary Ferguson (recorded as Furgason) on the 26 May 1831 in Wednesbury after Banns... Mary was the daughter of Phoebe Ferguson and her father is unknown...

Further investigation on Hugh's death from my research shows that he could have worked on the Rail...as I have a copy of the Coroner's Report dated October 1837 that he was died as a result of being run over by a cartwheel....

Mary & Hugh had the following children.
Alexander. Baptised 20 May 1832 High Offley. Staff
Anne            "         13 Feb 1834     "
William         "             May 1836   Maer.  Staff
and Elizabeth          26 Nov 1837.

Poor Mary not only lost her husband in October 1837, but was  8 months Pregnant with Elizabeth when Hugh died... I have copies from the parish Register validating their Baptism...According to Find My Past Burial Transcription.... Hugh Fraser ( name change again to what it is today) was aged 37 years at  the time of his death. he is buried in St Peter's Maer Anglican Church on 16 October 1837.

Again I apologise for taking up so much time and patience of this group, but as you can see I have in the past 3-4 years made a few little steps from the previous posts and it has taken me all of this time to get to where I am at present....If I could find out about Hugh's parents, who they were, where was he born? and is he a Scot or Irish do to the name changing all the time....

Thank you so much

Sincerely,

Faysie

Good Morning from Australia….

This is rather long winded but I’m hoping that this contained information will assist in my request for help after researching for 20 years and finding little.

Hugh Fraser (aka Frazer & Frazier) married Mary Ferguson (recorded as Fargason) 26 May 1831 in Wednesbury Staffordshire. Mary was the daughter of Phoebe Ferguson and Mary’s father is unknown…when they married Hugh signed his name and Mary made her Mark….
Hugh Died at a young age of 37 years in October 1837 after a tragic accident of being run over by cartwheel whilst working in Madeley Staffordshire... (info obtained from Coroner’s Inquest). Hugh was buried at St. Peters, Maer. Staffordshire on 16 Oct 1837….which means his birth is Circa 1800.

With all of this information that I have gathered over some 25 years I still do not know who his parents were after gathering Primary records (i.e.) Marriage  etc. I do not know if Hugh was Scots or Irish as the name changed over the years with his descendants to “Fraser” as it’s known today.

I would very much appreciate any help or guidance as I do not want to give up and hopefully someone in this group may be able to assist me in my request to find out….Thanking you one an all for your patience.

Sincerely,
Fay Fraser

Thank You so very much "blemdookie" for the information about Patrick Burke and Mary Ward.... I am at a loss as to understand why they would have their other children Baptised and no mention of my Winifred?....methinks that Winifred told a lot of Fibs during her lifetime and am wondering if she has used Patrick & Mary to side track yet again....however I will try and put the pieces of the puzzle together and continue.... I really appreciate you replying and hope I can find something soon .

Kind regards
Faysie

Thank you Explorer2015 for your reply.... I can confirm that my Winifred Burke did not go to New York in 1848... she was here in Australia at that time....also I'm sure about a connection in your earlier post....as my Winifred was born much earlier than your Gran in 1847.... but " Thanks Anyway."
