England / Re: Guy Fife Earle in 1939 Register

Thank you, that is indeed his marriage and wife (his third)

I feel like a bit of a fool for not trying to find Bridget, so thank you, and at least Guy was not with her so I haven't completely lost the plot and missed him.

KGarrad, thank you for that information; I have certainly found plenty of relations who had similar career paths to Guy, but I suppose they may have been retired/inactive. Guy, I would presume, was very much active at this time. That would likely explain his absence.

Thank you Sarah  :)

England / Guy Fife Earle in 1939 Register
« on: Sunday 30 August 20 10:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am trying to pin down Guy Fife Earle in the 1939 Register. I am beginning to think that perhaps he was not recorded... it is possible he was away, particularly as I believe he was in the RAF. His date of birth is 24 August 1891.

I have him in a 1936 electoral register at 52 Abbey Lodge, Regent's Park; with Bridget Joan Earle, who is his wife.

In 1945 Guy is at 49 Loughborough Park SW9, seemingly with a Surridge couple.

As to his whereabouts in 1939, I am none the wiser! If anyone could offer some advice or suggestions, that would be much appreciated  :)

Thank you,
Lissy

How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) / Verification requirements
« on: Sunday 30 August 20 10:03 BST (UK)  »
Hello all   :)

I just wanted to say goodness, some of these verification codes are a little difficult to read. Quite possibly I just need my prescription updated, but a couple of times I have not got the letters correct first go  :-[   Luckily I did not lose my post. Perhaps I am a little too keen!

I am assuming these verification requirements go away after a certain period of time? I'm certainly not complaining about them, by the way. Good to keep the riff-raff out  :o  ;D

The Stay Safe Board / Re: Diary > Saturday 29th August

Good morning all,

What a fantastic forum I seem to have serendipitously stumbled upon, and in my exploration of the site this morning I have come across these diary posts. I've been so meaning to get back into keeping some sort of daily record...I look forward to joining you on these posts.

I have read the last few entries, and whilst hoping not to sound too daft as I do not know you (or anyone here - yet!), I feel I have to say that my thoughts are with Jeff on the loss of your son (who looks as warm and bubbly as can be); and for Viktoria, hoping the best for your friend.

Thanks for starting this great idea  :)

The Lighter Side / Re: My lucky day in Hong Kong

Don't you just love that, ten minutes and you're reading a record from the other side of the world (from both of us it seems!), from over a century ago.

No doubt years of genealogy experience provides some sort of wind under the wings, a certain level of intuition, or "non-beginner's luck" I feel. When I am searching for digitised records on largely unindexed sites such as FamilySearch, and I know, say, the marriages covered are from 1774 to 1783, and I know there are 320 pages, it is quite fun to take a stab at what page I think my marriage will be on.... 1779, so roughly page 180 or so... A little bit of mathematics and a large dollop of luck, but many occasions I get it bang on, and that always gives me that tiny endorphin rush genealogy so well provides  ;)

Anyway, well done, & good luck finding more on Arthur  ;D
