Norfolk / Re: William Jewson

It’s good to be here! :)

I haven’t figured out how to reply to you all individually, so here goes.

Thank you rosie99! The record I found for Sarah Ann Jewson listed her baptism year as 1842, so the birth registration and marriage you have looks right! Thank you!

Yes Ladyhawk, Mary did remarry, sorry I forgot to mention. She married Robert Goff in 1856. They had two children, Catherine Sumner and James, who both died young in Saddleworth.

I could only access a snippet of William Jnr’s marriage record transcript, so it’s possible I got the wrong name, and his father is actually named John. Is it possible that William could have been John’s middle name?

Thank you everyone for your help! :)

Norfolk / William Jewson

I’m trying to find information relating to William Jewson (senior). I’ve hit a dead end.

His son, also named William, emigrated to South Australia in 1857 on the passenger ship Sumner when he was 14 years old, with his mother Mary (36yrs) and his sister Sarah Ann. William junior’s South Australian marriage records lists his father’s name as William.

The 1851 England census lists Mary, William, and Sarah Ann living in Tilney St Lawrence, Norfolk. The 1851 census also lists Mary Jewson as a widow, so whoever William (senior) was, he had to have died before 1851.

I can’t find any record of a William Jewson marrying a Mary in the Norfolk/Cambridgeshire area. There’s quite a clan of Jewsons living in Norfolk at the time, but I haven’t been able to definitively link them to this family. Sarah Ann’s baptism record from 1842 doesn’t list the father, and just has Mary Jewson listed.

I’ve been trying to untangle this for weeks. Let me know if things don't make sense. It’s possible I’ve gotten myself completely confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
