Hi
Harry died in July 2019 in Bromsgrove Worcestershire. He was 98 years old. He may indeed be the redacted entry in 1939 along with Jonah , Dorothy etc.

Regarding F M P what does this mean and where can I look it up ?

Gibel  Thanks for the information re . Dudley archives . I hope this will prove most useful

Hi and thanks for replies. I am subscribed to ancestry.co.uk and will have a look at the Railway Employment Records.

I'm also working my way through the orphanages/ childrens homes / schools in the area. Although he wasnt an orphan , his parents were poverty stricken and had to send him away to be looked after . I believe this was quite common in those times .
I'm not sure whether this was done through the church or other charitable organisations . But I think that my gg uncle worked on the railways when he was old enough to do so , while still living in the orphanage /school/childrens home .
Thanks for taking the time to help . Stay safe

Hi and thanks for replies . My gg uncles name was William Harry Parsonage ... he was known as Harry.
His father was William Henry Parsonage . He was born in Dudley .

His mother was Dorothy Parsonage ( nee Phillips ). She did remarry when my gg uncle was 11 years old .. but he kept the surname Parsonage .

Hi I cant find him on the 1939 register . And , yes he kept his birth name .. he re-connected with his family when he left the orphanage/school. I am led to believe that many children from poor/disadvantaged families were sent to orphanages .. even though they were not actaully orphaned . Whether this was organised by churches or not , I have no idea.

Hi   I am trying to find out which vessels my grandfather Captained during the second world war. I believe one of the ships was torpedoed by a German submarine . My grand father was badly wounded  and I believe was hospitalised in New Zealand for many months

Any advice  on how to find out this information would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Has anyone heard of railway apprenticeships in the 1930's 40's  from schools /orphanages  for boys who stayed there .

I believe girls were trained in domestic skills .

I am interested to find out any information I can about these schools/orphanages especially in the West Midlands area , as I believe a great great uncle was placed in one of these places .

thanks
