The Lighter Side / Re: Grandparents - What makes you smile??
« on: Wednesday 23 August 06 19:53 BST (UK)  »
I was about ten years old when my Great Granny Flewers died aged 100. I can remember being amazed that, although she was blind, she ciould go into the scullery and make a pot of tea. She also managed to get to the pub each day for her half of stout, and that is how she lost her sight - she was celebrating the birth of two great Grandchildren and everyone in the pub bought her a drink. She went home and fell face first into the coal fire, how she survived I'll never know, but she did and remained fiercely independant.

I hope I have her 'get up and go' if I live as long.

Armed Forces / Re: Naval Record ???

Thanks to you both, I guessed he had "done a runner"
Would this have been something he could have been arrested for?, as  I can't find him on 1891 census, Perhaps he was just lying low. In 1892 he was in prison for other offences
Any ideas what the comment is in the Remarks column?
Just trying to put the 'meat on the bones'  so to speak
Thanks

Reyz

It is a shot in the dark but my gran said she had older brothers "shipped out" to canada befor she was born in 1908. I have not been able to trace them as her mother (granny Flewers) tended not to marry her partners and her children were registered under different surnames :o

Thanks anyway
One of those rainyday/nothing better to do jobs.

The sad thing is that when she died they found a tin box with letters from her birth mother and decided to bury it with her!!!! ::)

Exhumation!
