Hi Colin,
Many thanks for your replies, this is my first post so it’s good to hear from you.
George Hampton born in Maryton married an Elizabeth Cant.
Had a look for George Hampton born in 1805 who married Charlotte Gordon as in the one you mentioned, and there is no record of his parents, so he could be the George from Fettercairn.
There is also a George Hampton born in Laurencekirk in 1806, and he was living in Laurencekirk in 1851 as a border. I notice in the 1851 census George that married Charlotte wasn’t on the census so he could have been working in Laurencekirk.
Laurencekirk is next to Fettercairn so again some confusion.
It’s like opening a can of worms ha ha!
I can’t find the death of a George Hampton in 1843 in Montrose?

I have my ggg grandfather George’s marriage certificate and Maria Aldersons
Father was John Alderson a master mariner but I haven’t gone any further with that yet.
Thanks again,
S

Hello there,
I’m looking for the birthplace of my great great great grandfather George Hampton, born in 1804, from census records,in forfarshire. He became a stonemason and by 1840 he had moved to Stockton on Tees in the north east of England, where he married a Maria Alderson (in 1840). His marriage certificate states his father was John Hampton and he was a gardener.
George died in 1876 in Stockton, aged 72.

The only George I can find born in 1804 in forfarshire was born in Maryton of Montrose, but he lived and died in Scotland so it isn’t the right one.
I found a George born in 1804 in Fettercairn which is in Kincardineshire but on the border of forfarshire. His parents were John Hampton and May Cowieson. There isn’t any information about this George other than his birth so I’ve no proof it’s the right George.

Can anyone help?
Many thanks
