Ireland / Re: Looking for information on Moses and James Davidson

Thank you for all your suggestions. I've gone onto SP and located the relevant records.

Quote
Eliza Davidson born Lanarkshire 1867
Robert Davidson born Lanarkshire 1871

The Scottish birth certificates should include date and place of parents' marriage which would make it easy to confirm or rule out the Broughshane marriage posted above*.

* I think occupation for groom's father is farmer not 'gardner' as suggested earlier.

Robert Davidson's birth in Shotts 1870 (not 1871 as I mentioned originally) confirms the Broughshane place of marriage for parents Moses and Helen/Ellen in 1851. I have attached the SP record.

I would say the Ballymena marriage stands a more than extremely good chance of being your couple. Your couple's names individually are by no means unique, but I would be more inclined to think the combination - as a married couple -  would warrant a very good look at the marrying pair.

I was thinking the same thing, the combination of names as the married couple and the year of marriage makes it very likely it is the couple I'm looking for.

Have you got a better image of the 1851 marriage? I think his father is James, or is it John? Hers is certainly James.

1) Helen/Ellen died 1878. Registered on SP in Shotts, Helen McBride or Davidson, aged 52. mms Stewart. Looking for her father's name on the death record?
2) Moses remarried in 1880 to Charlotte Murphy.   They are on the 1881 Census, with his son Robert by Hellen/Ellen  and Charlotte's children by her prior marriage. Who is Moses' father on that marriage?
3) Moses died in a mining accident in 1884. Who is his father on that Death record?

The image that you shared for the marriage is the same one that I found (poor quality), and the name James ties in with the fathers name on the death record of Helen in 1878.

1 - Looks like James McBride and Janet Stewart named as parents.
2 - Moses' father on the marriage is James Davidson and mother Ann Irvine

Regards,
Gary

Ireland / Looking for information on Moses and James Davidson

I'm trying to find any information on my ancestors before they moved to Scotland. I will post everything I know. All of the census information from 1861 onwards shows under born is "Ireland".

According to the 1871 Census, my gg grandfather James Davidson was born in Ireland in 1853, parents Moses Davidson (1853 - 1884) and Helen McBride (1826 - 1878).

Father - Moses Davidson born Ireland 1823
Mother - Helen McBride born Ireland 1826
James Davidson born Ireland 1853
Janet Davidson born Ireland 1857
Eliza Davidson born Lanarkshire 1867
Robert Davidson born Lanarkshire 1871

The 1861 census places them in Scotland so they have moved between 1857 (Janet's birth) and 1861.

I have found a marriage of "Ellen McBride and Moses Davison" in Ballymena in 1951 which could be them but I have no way of confirming this.

Grateful for any information at all.

US Lookup Requests / Annie Cosgrove
« on: Tuesday 15 March 22 16:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a bit of help on one of my ancestors - Annie Cosgrove

Born 1901 in Kilmarnock, Scotland. Father William Cosgrove and mother Margaret Cosgrove.

She travelled aboard the "Cameronia" on 23rd March 1925 to New York from Glasgow. The record shows her final destination was Arlington, NJ.

After she arrived in New York I can't find anything. My mother seems to remember she came back to visit in the 50s and her husband was called Jack but we have no surname.

I would be grateful for any information found.

Thanks

I guess it's a possibility. She married and had children who were all born in Ayrshire, I'm just confused how/why she has ended up in Edinburgh.

Hi CaroleW, thank you for your reply.

I have used Google and come across the pages you have referenced.

I haven't really found the answer through Google that's why I posted here in the off chance a member has come across the same thing.

I've contacted Peter Stubbs from the Edinphoto.org.uk website to see if he can help.

Midlothian / Dean Orphanage
« on: Tuesday 15 June 21 14:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some information on the Dean Orphanage from 1920's/1930's period. Was this specifically an orphanage for children or was it also a hospital?

I have an ancestor who has this orphanage listed as her usual residence on her death certificate but was 36 when she died.

Thanks
