Hi Mark

From my experience, the term Commercial Traveller often implied the person was a minister/preacher of some kind, most likely part of the methodist faith.

Hope this helps

Berkshire Lookup Requests / 1841 Reading Census Lookup please
« on: Monday 27 June 05 15:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Could someone check the Reading 1841 census for me?

Unfortunately I am not 100% sure whether this man will turn up here, but I cannot locate him anywhere else. He was possibly in the town for the Primitive Methodist Annual Conference held in June of that year.

Details of the man I am looking for are:

ABRAHAM WORSNOP born 1807 nr Bradford occ: Primitive Methodist Minister

With thanks

Hi Sue

Thanks for taking the time to look for me.

I think I may have now found James in Shelf, near Bradford and Elizabeth and Rebecca in Sheffield but still no sign of Abraham. It seems they were spread out for the 1841 census! Abraham was a methodist minister and as such did spend much of his life time travelling. I am just hoping that he wasnt missed out of the census altogether, say perhaps because he was on the road or something!

I will keep looking but will just have to broaden my search.

Thanks again

Gloucestershire / Re: Ann Maria Payne - Bristol

Hi Andy

I have looked for you but I cannot find anything much to help.

What I would suggest is that you need to track down Ann & John's marriage certificate as this will provide Ann's fathers name. This would then answer your question without doubt. I would say you should work between the years 1844 and the year there first child was born which must be about 1847/1848. This is only a 3 or 4 year window so you should be able to narrow it down using www.1837online.com. It may take some time and credits and even some wrong tries but this is definitely the way I would go.

Hope this helps, sorry I couldnt help more
