Thanks all, so not as straight forward as I thought it might be... the answer seems to be 'it depends'

The burial I have in mind was mid 1850s in a rural English parish. Also, the person concerned was a non-conformist, although listed in the parish register.

Does that narrow things down at all?

Maybe a silly question, but if a person is listed in the parish burial register, does that mean they were buried in the parish church graveyard?

Yes, that's them. I can never make my mind up if Henry looks like the same man, but wife Ada looks the same (if older and more tired), right?

Yes, sorry, my mistake. He was baptised in Cardiff to Henry Thomas Chandler and Martha Baker.

Full name was Henry Thomas Chandler, bapt. 6 Nov 1872 in Cardiff.

Could this really be WW1? They'd both be about 40 at that time, do you think they look that old in the picture?

This is my great-grandfather, Henry Chandler, born 1872 in Bristol. With him his wife Ada, born 1875. They married in 1893 so I guess this photo might date to the mid 1890s?

I have no record of Henry serving in the army and wondered if this uniform might give me some clues.

Thanks
