Re: http://www.hartleyfamily.org.uk/Fame2SZ.htm

William's HARTLEY family is thought to be Lancashire Huguenot Yeomen, some of whom had lived and farmed in the Trawden area since the 16thC, in particular near Barley at the foot of Pendle Hill since sometime around 1620. They later went from farming to become fairly modest local Grocers in the district. [The HARTLEY family only lived in Trawden for a short time and never farmed there. William and Christiana HARTLEY lived in a small shop/house that belonged to Christiana's father, Christopher LISTER: Gordon Hartley]

I believe the website "Find my past" has ship passenger lists.

Here is a list of Hartley monumental inscriptions for Burnley http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/talkback/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=513

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: COLNE SAMUEL CATLOW 1805
« on: Saturday 02 October 10 05:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I think my Catlow line might be related to your tree, so I am doing some research.  Anyhow, this is what I have found so far:

Express and Advertiser, December 15, 1917
DEATH OF MR. SAMUEL CATLOW.- Early yesterday morning the death took place at the Victoria Hospital of Mr. Samuel Catlow, Netherby-st., manager for Coun. Luke Thornber, cotton manufacturer, and brother of Mrs. Thornber. Mr. Catlow, who died after an operation, was 60 years of age. He leaves a widow and two sons, Messers. Tom and Louis Catlow, one of whom is in the Army and the other in the Navy. In politics Mr. Catlow was a Liberal, and for some time, he was chairman of the Gannow ward Committee. He was attached to Brunswick United Methodist Church. He was the eldest son of the late Christopher Catlow, of Butterworth and Dickinson’s. His many friends, who held him in high esteem, will regret to learn of his death.

I just received this message from Burnley Library: "Barclay Hills and Bartle Hill are the same colliery."

Hi, I added these photos to a youtube video.  They can be seen at 8:46 and 8:52.  You can watch the video in HD if you want to see the images in more detail. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqD5KFN0Hrg

Lancashire / Re: Burnley, Lancashire - Parker's Arms Inn, 10/12 Croft Street
« on: Friday 17 September 10 15:37 BST (UK)  »
Thanks Mo.

I received this message from Burnley Library.

The photograph you have of the Parker's Arms is the one in Colne.  I
have attached the image from a book from the Images of England series on
Colne, compiled by Geoff Crambie.

Under the photograph the writing says "Church Street as it looked in
1895 from the top of the parish church tower.  The two buildings on the
right are the Parkers Arms and The Fleece both built in 1665 and lost to
demolition in 1905"

In another book called "The History of Colne" by Dorothy Harrison she
says that when the inn, situated on 21 Church Street" was demolished it
was replaced by a larger inn which was later demolished by the Council
in 1938.  The Parker Arms was built for the Parkers of Alkincoats.

There was a Parkers Arms Inn in Burnley and it was similar but the Colne
one looks the better option.

Thanks Cancan.  This might seem daft, but the article mentions a postcard image which does not appear.  Where the photo would normally be, I find a local furniture advertisement.  Perhaps the image is blocked because I am in Canada?  If there is an image, would it be possible to add it to this thread?
Thanks, Kris
