if the last child was born 1930 and you know what year that child was put into care it would narrow down your dates. say the child was 10 yrs old you would need to look at the gro death records from that year. which could take time. or add his details and some one may just find him for you. good luck

Gadget

my niece has a tom tom and we were going out for the day so she tried out her tomtom as you do and she put in my post code and it gave her directions to go to the square a residential area just behind my house.

You take the rough with the smooth and it can lead to some good contacts. At under £10 per annum you cannot complain about the price surely.

You're right...A tenner a year is not bad when you consider a sandwich and a coffee on the ferry from Dover to Calais cost £6.00  ::)

it used to be a tenner for the year so i guess all those who paid a tenner before the price change did so in time as its now gone up to a tenner for 6 months or you can get a month via mobile phone for a fiver which is a new thing,

The Lighter Side / jobs you wouldnt quote.
« on: Saturday 22 September 07 15:11 BST (UK)  »
Having a chat about jack the ripper with some friends we got on to talking about the prostitutes and that there must have been more then those in the white chapel area of London.

It was mentioned that some of us have never actually seen on the census 1881-1891(for any boarding house where many prostitutes stayed) occupation prostitute.

Has any one found out otherwise in there search. or found that any ancestor was a prostitute during the time of jack the ripper 1888 and even more to the point around the white chapel area.

I have 1,2,3,4, 5, and almost a 10. but with out these we wouldn't have a history to uncover so i guess we should be grateful. and our searches would be so boaring. which reminds me of jobs in the late 1800s and no mention of these jobs in the 1891 census.

The Lighter Side / Re: Family Myths
« on: Tuesday 11 September 07 16:10 BST (UK)  »
i have been told that years ago when a family settled on land and more added to it that gave it a name IE normally that of the first settlers so the myth was the town was theres or belonged to them as time evolved and people came to live there or move away. the myth was still there as it was passed down to generations. the land not actually being brought by any one. worth a thought. or or looking into.
