Dear Christine
I would like to ask you for a little help, thank you for your earlier reply. My e mail is (*) and I'm in Tynemouth.
My grandfather Thomas william Dixon died in Bedlington. He was born in 1893, married Elizabeth Long in 1918 and their first child was my father Andrew Dixon, now deceased in 2005. I'm 59 and a retired teacher. I never knew my grandfather as I was perhaps a toddler when he was born. Due to a family rift as my grandfather married a second time due to premature death of his first wife, that marriage was in 1944 in Bedlington to Mary Jane Maughan who became Mary Jane Dixon. They lived at 22 Steadland
Square in Bedlington in the 1950's. She died in 1977 I have her death certificate where his name appears as deceased coal miner.
I have his birth cert, his 2 marriage certs, but cannot get a death certificate for him.
Morpeth Registrars INSIST they do not have it nor Newcastle. My cousin lived near to my grandfather and says he died in around 1954 when my cousin was 8 years old. I have been to Woodhorn and searched Bedliington Burials book, Cowpen Crematorium state they did not cremate him, I have wandered round West Ridge Church yard bedlington where First wife was buried, for hours.
No luck. Choppington Parish tell me he is not buried there. So no death cert and no proof of burial or cremation so where do I go from here? At wits end!! He was a Bedlington Man, died in Bedlington, possibly at Thomas Taylor homes (but registrar say they have checked there in that book as well). It's as if they are determined to outdo me!! Nothing on ancestry search fits his Date of Birth
i.e. the wrong age has been given when his death was registered, or when computerised, perhaps by step son. Stepson born in 1935 does not appear to have died but cannot be traced. Mosley Maxfield Maughan.
How would you handle this please, can you help?
Thank you Allan Keith Dixon
