Wexford / Michael, Caleb, John Margaret and Ann Emerson
« on: Saturday 02 September 17 09:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,
i need help finding the birth parents of one Caleb Emerson born around 1790 died 1828 Liverpool England i have found little information on him except he was in the Royal Navy married Elizabeth McKie Scotland and have several children in different countries. Iam going on the assumption that his father was Michael as his first born son was named Michael Willington/Wellington Emerson who was born in Dublin. I do have information that a Michael Emerson from Erdmine Wexford  wife Margaret had three children Caleb, John and Ann this was from a will which stated that Margaret Caleb and Ann were deceased i think it was Michaels will dated 1856 my Caleb died in 1850 so he seems to fit. Any help find his parents would be truly appreciated

Hi
Yeah I was confused when I found a Caleb aged 12 months buried with Caleb (dr) senior and his 9 year old brother Michael. I can only assume that this child is actually Wellington their youngest son whom I can not find anywhere. Caleb that came to Australia was born 1821/22 in Dublin Ireland he married his first wife in Mary Framm 1848 in Victoria she died and he remarried to his second wife Caroline Shingler they had 7 children plus a daughter from his first marriage. I come through his son called Caleb. Caleb Snr was a draper before moving to the goldfields in Central Victoria where he worked as a puddler and succumbed to Coloniel fever in 1850. His wife married and had three more children. I have managed to track Caleb Dr who was a surgeon in the Royal Navy but as I said have no parents for him I know where his wife Elizabeth McKie came from and is buried in Wigtownshire Scotland I got the information about dr Caleb of the marriage certificate and Elizabeth's will

Its been several years trying to chase the origins of Caleb Emerson born c1794 died 1828 in Everton Liverpool England. Caleb married Elisabeth McKie is Scotland in Jan 1818 and had the first child Michael late Dec 1818 in Scotland he and his wife had several more children in Scotland, Ireland and presumably in England where they were christened. Caleb was a surgeon in the Royal Navy and possibly in Dublin. He is buried in a joint grave with 2 of his sons in the Necropolis Everton. Caleb's son's Caleb came to Australia and Alexander went to Canada his daughter and wife both Elisabeth returned to Scotland after his death in 1828. His wife died in 1856 in Inch Wigtownshire Scotland and his daughter seems to have disappeared. If any one has any info on Dr Caleb it would be great I know of several ships he was on but do not have his parents whom I love to find
kind regard Lynne

Thanks guys yes the marriage is his, the baptism record for Michael is his son I do beleive the  Apothacarie listing is also him as his son Caleb was born 1821/22 in Dublin.IN the commercial directory 1820-1822 Caleb was operating a surgery in Dublin Ireland

Caleb Emerson
1801-1825
Town: Dublin
County/Colonial: Ireland Manchester
Occupation: physician
Male
Address: 20, Bolton Street
&Nbsp;Town: Dublin
&Nbsp;County/Colonial: Ireland
1820
I discovered that he was in the Royal Navy from his wife Elizabeth will as it states she was a relict of Caleb Emerson surgeon in Royal Navy as I said I have traced him to several ships from 1812. I am convinced that he is from Ireland because there is not much information on him. (birth date parents etc, I know he was born around 1790 because he was 38 when he died in 1828)
Someone mention a trip to National Archives in Kew Surrey could be beneficial and chase the Navy route but I live in Australia a tad to far away
Anyway thanks for looking much appreciated

Wexford / IS Caleb Emerson from Wexford

I have been trying for many many many years to find my ancestor Caleb Emerson. I know he was a surgeon in the Royal Navy from around 1812 but he was a Doctor in Lancashire until his death in 1828 at the age of 38. He married Elisabeth McKie in  January 1818 in Scotland and had Michael Wilington Emerson (Stranrear Wigtown shire) the same year, then moved to Ireland where his 2nd son Caleb 1821/22  (Dublin)was born then back to Scotland for the birth of 3rd son Alexander 1825 (Stranrear Wigtown shire) next I found them in England where their daughter Elizabeth and another child Wellington were christened but I do not know their birth place. My problem is I have no birth place or parents for Dr Caleb I know where he died and that he is buried with his first and last son in the same grave in Everton Lancashire. I have in the past been given some information of a Caleb being the son of a Michael and Margaret Emerson from Edermine Co Wexford  but nothing concrete birth date etc. I feel that this Micheal is the father of Caleb as with tradition his first son was called Michael second Caleb and third Alexander (Elisabeth father is Alexander). If anyone can help it would be fantastic. There is no other Caleb anywhere around the world that fits the time frame. In Wexford I found a Caleb and Rose Emerson around 1766 this could possibly be the grandparents.
