This is the rescan, at the highest quality I can get. I can't see a lot of difference to the original scan though tbh.

Thanks Mahalia, that does look a bit better, I'll scrutinise it and see if I can make out any more details :)

EDIT: Sorry it's so huge, I have no idea why it's so much bigger than the others!

Hi there,
I have a photo from the early 20th century of my g-uncle by marriage wearing some sort of masonic-style regalia. It's been suggested that I put the photo up here and see if anyone can clean it up more so that the insignia etc is  clearer. I've already had a go -the orginal is very faded.
Thank you so much to anyone who can give this a shot:)

The most faded one is the original, the sharper, yellower one is the one I've played around with myself.

Unfortunately this is post-clean up. I'm not sure how much further it can be improved. I might see if anything more can be done though, as all I've done is improve the contrast.

The Common Room / Early 20th century masonic type regalia identification

Among a lot of old photographs that my mother found there is this picture of my grandmother's sister's husband, John Gillibrand. He appears to be wearing some sort of masonic-style regalia, but as far as googling can make out, it doesn't seem to be Masonic, Orange Order, Oddfellow or Buffalo. He lived in Manchester, Lancashire and  this photo would have been taken somewhere between roughly 1917 and 1930. Can anyone shed light on what order he was a member of?

Thank you so much to anyone who can help:)

Are there still Choppins in St Vincent now? I know of Choppin decendants from the female lines(who, of course don't bear the Choppin name) are still living there, but I did not know that anyone bearing the name was left on the island. I'd love to hear from them.

James Clement Choppin was the brother of my direct ancestor. I know who he is, how he fits into my line, and I can go back two more generations to his grandfather and grandmother(and further again for his grandmother's family).

I've been trying to find out more about this murder myself, I posted on facebook's Caribbean genealogy group seeking anything anyone might have come across. It's proving elusive and really frustrating. I don't *think* it can have been my direct ancestor Jonathan...pretty sure I can place him in British Guiana at that time, but I wonder if it wasn't Henry, who I know little about. If you make a  couple more posts to bring your post count up, I can send you a PM, and I can share what I know about James Clement Choppin and  his ancestors.

I ran Sprott and Place: St Vincent through the LDS family search site and this is what came up(hope it works): https://www.familysearch.org/search/records#count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3ASprott~%20%2Bany_place%3A%22St%20Vincent%22~
Only a few results but you might find something relevant. Sprott is an unusual name, so odds are that these people would be connected to your Sprotts in some way.

Please forgive me for butting in here but I don't think I have posted enough queries yet to permit a personal message.   This query is for Velveteen re St Vincent.

I have a longstanding problem backtracking from my ggg grandfather who - according to the census returns - was born in Tortola, BVI about 1800.   His name was Mark John Dyer.   According to the LDS records, a Mark Dyer was baptised on St Vincent in 1804.   The father is recorded as Samuel Dyer and the mother as Celia Albert.   Family legend has it that my Mark Dyer was of mixed blood so it is possible that he was born on one island and baptised elsewhere.   I have traced this couple to Chateaubellair (through the slaves registers on Ancestry).   Have you come across them in your research, Velveteen?

Thanks

I know I've seen Dyer mentioned in my searches, but not connected to my family, so I haven't taken that much notice, sorry.

Linda V -Sprott doesn't ring any bells at all, sorry.

what families are you researching? A lot of my research is based on Saint Vincent, and I'm sort of doing a project on the inter-relations of the colonial families of St Vincent, so I might have something in my own records.

Resources I've found to help have been British Census' IF they went back and forth a lot -mine did.

Another is http://svgancestry.com/ which has a small amount of BMD's and other information, including some photographs of memorials in St George's Anglian Church in Kingstown. Another off-beat one I've found to be helpful is documents online.

Sorry it's taken me awhile to get back. I had no luck with the Will I was considering. It was a long shot, but i did decide to give it a go, not knowing what else to try next.
